Wow.... sold two cars in a couple hours on Craigslist!

I have been dragging my feet as I rarely sell any of my babies, but I listed my old '77 924 on Craigslist this afternoon then spent the following several hours trying to keep too many people from coming out at once to pay me cash for it. One guy actually saw my old 322k mileage BMW and asked if it was for sale also.... I said yeah, I guess so and he whipped out a wad of cash and bought it while the other guy was pulling out in my old 924. I guess my prices were too low for what I considered to be old high mileage rusty ready for the junkyard cars.

Of course my wife is ready to kill me now that she knows I am considering spending the cash on a race car project. A few minutes of bliss now followed by hours of anguish.

Our lives sound pretty parallel right now Tim. I sold off my 77 924 last week, listed it cheap on Craigs, right before leaving work. My phone was ringing before I got home, and it was gone at 10:30 that night. Just listed my Dually, and it took two days to sell, but I listed it higher than I thought it was worth, and the second buyer paid asking price cash. Also sold off a chineese quad that I was too embarassed to say that I owned, and sold of a broken cub cadet
I was just trying to prioritize my projects, and raise a little cash to finish off my 930's motor.
It does get hectic, about 20 mins.s after listing something, the texts, e mails, and phone calls start rolling in.

All in how you write the add, and the feelings generated. Nothing to do with the item...

So, with that in mind, I have a 'few' goodies I can part with.

When can you write it up? Between you two and a little luck, maybe I can open up some space

Glad the sales were a success!

My motorcycle sold quick today too. Hadn't had any bites for a while until today.... Guy calls about noon, and by one had the cash in my hands. He didn't even ride it, he saw us buzzing around on it pulling it out of the barn and that was good enough....

While we were doing the titlework dad got another call on it, and I got an email tonight... Wtf?

It's funny. We spend so many years increasingly convinced that the more stuff we have, the happier we will be. Only to find that the opposite is true.

I've been getting rid of stuff, and it feels very good. I was happiest when all my stuff fit on my motorcycle.

I am actually now contemplating selling my 944 turbo and a couple motorcycles. That said... I did feel kind of bad parting with vehicles I had spent so much time over the years. I know they are just hunks of steel, but I can't help feeling a bit attached to them and shudder at the thought of the new owners hauling them to a junkyard the first time something breaks and they are overwhelmed by the cost to pay someone else to fix them.

Tons of calls is a sure sign you priced your stuff too low. A friend posted 20 pounds of Star Wars Legos on Craigslist for $160. They were gone in 20 minutes and he had at least 6 people waiting to see if the first guy really showed up. One offered $50 over his asking price.

I live 30+ miles from everyone interested in my car and had two buyers show up before I asked them to. The first was about to hand over the cash for my 924 when he heard me tell the other buyer he could have my old unadvertised daily driver BMW if he really needed a car. Well the first buyer asked to see it also and he bought the BMW then I sold the 924 to the second guy. I took at least 5 phone calls from others while the deal was going down.

The second buyer told me he would pay more for the 924 while the first buyer in line was out test driving it. I told him I was not going to play that game.... I just felt like it would be unfair.... I guess I am too honest for my own good.

I sold the '77 924 for $1200.... It had not been driven since 2008 and needed tires, brakes and at least some fresh gas. The odometer was broke, but I am sure it had over 200k mileage on it's original engine and clutch. Ripped seats, rust bubbles, faulty heater cable/sliders, anti-freeze aroma when running, oil leaks, faded carpet, inoperative headlight washers, poor idle, rattling exhaust, corroded aluminum aftermarket wheels, weak old battery etc.

It might have been worth a bit more, but not much.

Exactly.... or so I thought.

I figured I would be "lucky" to get $1000 for it after listing it for 1200.

Truth there...the more stuff you have, the more stuff you need to take care of. Choose your stuff carefully.
