Home and Health insurance rates
Well I just got my new Homeowners and Health insurance rates and they are both going up 10%. I'm now paying $1130 a month for health insurance for my wife and I. And this is a group rate from my wifes previous employer.
The Health insurance was not a suprise, but I checked and my homeowners has also increased 10% or more for the last 4 years. Is everyone seeing this? I'm getting with my agent, don't know if it will do any good, but I'm not happy.

Pricing is going up across the board in regards to insurance. Expect it again next year.
Price depends on age, sex, health, benefits, copay, deductibles, etc. so its hard to comment. I pay about that for my family with (2) small children, mid 40's healthy couple. Shop around for homeowners, I have found that ins companies will continue to raise your rates since most people have it escrowed and don't really pay attention to the bills. I shopped my HO last year and saved 50% with better coverage. Went from Allstate to Travelers.

I think that insurance companies are spreading the increases around, to offset higher costs in the healthcare portion. And as Randy points out, most people don't really look at the homeowners policy.

Many homeowners insurers do not do health insurance, they're not subsidizing one for the other. More likely, the return on their investments is so low (look at bond yields, near record lows on treasuries) that they are jacking rates to compensate.

I am always ready to save $$ when given a chance but not when it comes to insurance - specifically home and auto. I have been with the same ins company (SF) for more than 20 years and they have always done right by me when needed. I hear too many horror stories about flaky ins companies to even consider leaving to save what amounts to a couple dinners out per year.
HC ins is another animal entirely. My employer pays to a certain limit and I was free to shop around. I have my family on a good PPO for ~ $600/mo. I tried to add myself but that would have bumped the bill to $1800/mo so I am on a crappy HMO for now. |

and it is amazing that people still do not want any change so when you cannot afford it the older you get the more possiblities you have of health problems. so you roll the dice and go without any health care sounds good to me. good luck. Edited - inappropriate comments removed. -Z-man.
