Opinion? YOUR opinion! Your a freaking bass player, sit behind everyone else, carry the beat, don't move around too much, and keep your opinion to yourself! Next your going to want to give the drummer a vote!

Congrats on the gig! I've started up guitar lessons again after a 20-year hiatus. The only tough part is I went from playing rock/blues with some metal back then to learning flamenco now. But hey, it was a good excuse to go out and buy another guitar.

I actually laughed out loud, Scott. As you probably know, we bass players secretly feel sorry for the always-glamorous lead guitarists. Indeed, nobody has more control over the music than we have. In our humble opinions.

Aaron.......That bike as something like 33K miles on it now. Pictures forthcoming, but it's not much different than when it left your place. New tires, sissy bar and luggage rack. Huge tall sissy pad........thing looks like an orca going down the road. Runs great. Fun to ride. Easy on gas.

less is more...always. Keep it simple early on and as you get comfortable with the material add finesse to it. If you get lost always go back to the one. Yes our combo amps really run best on 7-8. if you are louder than that in a club situation the band is too loud. I use the 1-15 for most gigs, but outdoors and bigger venues are tough unless you DI though the front of the house. It just don't have enough gas in the tank. For those kind of jobs I use my other rig, an Ampeg SVT-410 HLF and have a Hartke 3500 to push it. I have no probs keeping up with even a Marshall stack with that beast. It's LOUD!

Good luck tonight. Stay reasonably sober, relax, have fun, don't take it too seriously. Get drunk later if you like but, drunk on stage is a BIG turn off for both the band and the crowd.

Report to me on sunday......OK monday.

The only reason that hat is ok is because it matches the Orange Arrows pit shirt.

+1 on not drinking. Loaded musicians on stage is a pet peeve of mine and I've played with some awesome players who I never called back because they didn't know how many was too many.

Along with keeping it simple, remember that there are no wrong notes, and that playing *anything* in time serves the band better than slipping up trying to figure out what is "right." While those tunes do have some signature bass licks, far more important imho is to groove. As Victor says, "never lose the groove trying to find a note."

Interesting: I don't wear a hat, or play bass and all I need is one.

Practice.

You can pull $20s out of your wallet with one finger? I do need to practice more...

Very good advice. I recognize it. Stay reasonably sober. Nail the RHYTHM, if not the notes also. how true. Bass is a rhythm instrument. Sure, there is 'tone' or 'pitch' involved, but the big job that bass does is rhythm. Don't fuk that up. I get it.

I am going to have a BLAST. I will be grinning from ear to ear, boogeying to the end of my chord. Those of you who have created music for an audience know what I am about to experience. There are those who say that playing bass is better than sex. Sadly, that's probably true for some guys. Not for me. But it's a close second.

A good term would be "wired." I need to make sure I choke down some food today. This is going to be a BLAST. First time on stage in thirty years. I've worked on this material a fair bit, and I think I'm going to absolutely NAIL a good proportion of these songs. I just went through Day of the Eagle, and that'll be one I nail.

The conehead look.....I'm not ready for that. And I'm prolly going there without a hat. I hope I can still be in the club, after failing on the hat thing. But......I've become a pajama-pants guy lately, so I'll wear a cool pair of pajama pants and perhaps a Hawaiian shirt. That'll have to be "cool" enough.

I have never worn a hat whilst gigging bass. I do not consider a hat to be a required feature of a bassman. Once I wore a wig (Halloween show).

Funky pants are a good call...cool enough for sure.

Enjoy the show.
