Demise of another Ferrari on PCH

I couldn't make out the model of F-car based upon the pixellated photo. Fortunately doesn't sound like any bystanders were hurt.

Fatal Ferrari crash closes PCH - latimes.com

Quote:
Part of Pacific Coast Highway was closed for several hours after a Ferrari crashed into a power pole just north of Sunset Boulevard, killing one occupant of the car and injuring another.

The two men were ejected from the vehicle and fell about 30 feet to the beach below, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

One man died at the scene and the other was taken to UCLA Medical Center in critical condition, according the LAPD West Traffic Division, which is handling the accident investigation.

The victims' names haven't been released. A cause hasn't been determined.

The crash, which was reported at 1:27 a.m., brought down power lines, prompting the closure of a stretch of PCH in both directions.

Wow! Looking at the photo in the article I can't believe that anyone lived through that.

Geez, I don't know how these guys can loose it on PCH. Its not like a canyon road or something (of course there are plenty of car/bikes at the bottom of Mulholland).

Max, once you're old enough to drink and chase tail all night long, come back and let us know if you still think PCH at >100 mph is a breeze.

Wasn't the Enzo crash during the daytime, though?

Wish Howard was still around to pick up a piece of debris to auction on ebay.

I think the roads were wet last night. Not that those jokers would have noticed.

I was kind of thinking 360 as well, if that is the front fender visible, but it is so mangled that I thought it was not a sure enough thing.

I remember a certain 914 group run that traveled that part of PCH on a rainy day many years ago.
A guy in a white 3 liter 914-6 was running with a guy in an orange V-8 914 that was kind of a renegade if you know what I mean. I backed off at around 70 and let em go. I'm betting they hit 120 or more but didn't hit any telephone poles.
Must be an Italian thing.

Why do Ferraris always break in half in these crashes? I've lost count of how many half-Ferraris I've seen in these fatal crash stories.

I'm with ya. I remember he had the hose in a display case at the Autofest in Ventura. Howard was a great guy, and that was one of my favorite threads... RIP Howard Agency!!

For some reason I suspect that if a Ferrari is going to be in an accident...it will likely be one that occurs at high speed.

I seem to remember reading that they're designed to break there, so the occupants stay with the front of the car and the engine/fuel/dangerous stuff is separated.

The 914-6 or the two piece ferrari?

j/k.
I member Brad had hoosier slicks on his car in the serious downpour on Mullholland and he didn't spin out or wreck.
Iffn it were me driving it instead of him we'd prolly have a different result.
