Maybe he just drove her there to get her groceries. If does not live with her it would be strange to buy her groceries if she can afford them.

I'm a cougar fan.
But I wouldn't buy my mom groceries either. She doesn't look rich, but she is. And she entertains a lot and always has huge grocery hauls.

When I go shopping with Mom it is usually because she wants me to cook a fancy dinner - so we go to where she wants (fresh market...) and she can spend what she wants on what she wants.

Well since you don't know the situation I'd let it ride.
Now people sitting there with their heads up their azzes like deer in headlights while the clerk rings up their items, comes to the total, and THEN the person starts digging in their purse or butt to get cash or A FRIGGIN CHECK (REALLY????) is what gets me. Have some consideration people, get a clue, pay attention, you have to pay so get it ready and get the he!! out of my way!

My grocery store peeve goes in the opposite direction of age: 20-something guys walking empty-handed (or carrying a cellphone) while their little-bitty girlfriend is loaded down like a pack mule trying to get to their car. I see this a lot lately.

My biggest grocery store pet peeve is isle hogs. I was trying to get down one isle and a large lady with a basket full (her daily meal?) parked her cart across the end of the isle and waddled over to get something off of the shelf. I just gave her cart a nice push back to the produce department 20 feet away. I doubt she had ever see that part of the store before.
