Pawn Shops

Who buys at a pawn shop, and what do you buy?

Me? Yep. Tools. Occasionally Jewelery. Firearms.

And I know we have an owner on the board, who are the usual clients for purchases?

I scored a Gibson ES 125 from a pawnshop in SLC in 1979...think I paid $300 for it back then

Gibson ES 125

There are not to many pawn shops, or consignment places around where I live... I do make it a point to stroll through the few there are every now and then

We stroll through pawn shops when out of town with time to kill. Great place to pick up wrenches and sockets to keep on our trucks...

The local ones have crap inventory though... Only time we visit is for an FFL transfer, or when some **** is missing....

My brother in law bought a great dewalt compressor. It was then stolen from his backyard a few weeks later.

Got a nice McDermott cue & case from a local pawn shop for $100. I was going to use it as a trunk cue...but it became Cindy's cue...It has a nice hit.

The only thing I ever bought at a pawn shop was a trumpet for our daughter a few years ago. It's in nice shape, case, all accessories (I bought her a brand new mouthpiece) for $100.

I bought a pair of Sony C37-A microphones at a pawn shop in Colorado Springs in 1996 for $350. I'm about $7650 ahead of the game right about now.

Jewelry, non-power tools, spoons, and spoon related items.

Then again, my local pawn shops are the "gun shop that does pawns on the side" type places...

There was one in the Ocala National Forrest that sold sockets, wrenches, etc. by the pound. Big 55 gallon barrels of stuff, row after row...

Walked in looking for a cheap chainsaw, walked out with a 4th gen 16gig iPod nano for $90.00 Talked them down from $130.00
A coworker who is known for being very, very frugal suggested I try a pawn shop for the chainsaw; 1 available in very bad shape.

Been many times, never bought anything.

The ones around me mostly just have well-used, overpriced tools, guns, and electronics.

Years ago I sold my no-longer-needed wedding band to a pawn shop for $40. Bought a $150 Winchester 12ga shotgun for a net $110. Should have bought the shotgun 6 months sooner!

oh, yeah, i forgot about the time i sold an engagement ring that had been returned to me. i'd held on to it because i knew i wouldn't get NEARLY what i paid for it. i rode my bike to every pawnshop on state street, within ten miles, getting offers. after a few offers at about $25, i sold it to a shop for $110. i needed the money to go on a date with the woman i eventually married and we are still married, seventeen years later. all in all, it was a cheap investment, that ring.

Years have passed, probably 20, and I hated it then, but I really enjoy going into pawn shops with my father now.

Never pawned a thing, just frugal.

Damn fine cue! Huebler, you mean? Paul Huebler, Linn, Missouri. Now in his late 70's, (if still alive). Even his stained maple forearm sticks in 70% condition are worth $110 according to the 3rd edition of the blue book of pool cues. Some of the fancier ones in 100% condition are worth maybe $1,000. That's not a lot in the cue world.

So, keep playing with it, and enjoy...they're a good players cue...I mean that as a compliment.

Just guessing it's a kin to finding a MacGregor M85 driver. Pure control.
