Drifting in traffic - Middle East style

This looks like either "fun" or a spectator death wish.

Sometimes it doesn't go so well:

Unless your computer speaks Farsi, not sure how one would normally find these.

I don't understand. How could so many spectators stand there and put themselves at such risk? Why are there usually several passengers? Do law enforcement tolerate this?

I spent time in Dubai and Bahrain when on shore leave in the Navy. The tolerance for bad safety situations was obvious, but this takes the cake. I will go out on a limb and conjecture that it is a cultural issue with middle east. I'll guess they either have so much cash the property risk isn't a concern or these are stolen cars.

Sure, it's all exciting, but then somebody gets a crushed thorax, cranium, long bone fractures and ...... dies. Do they respect life?

Looks like there are lots of "low mile" cars "driven by grandmothers" for sale over there.

Because if you search for "arab drifting" on youtube, pretty much all of those videos come up, and you don't even have to know farsi.

you might want to mute this video.

Byron,
RE: the hwy accident in Japan. Traffic accident investigators there are very if not extremely thorough. They tackle these cases with a fine tooth comb. For example, in a hit and run incident I saw on a Japanese cable TV show, they vacuumed all the fragments and bits from the accident scene for clues, then picked through it like so many archeologists. In the case of a found paint chip (even a repaint), they'll ID the manufacturer, the vehicle, then inspect vehicles from area owners for collision damage. At that point, most guilty owners fess up.

Thanks for the info Sherwood, I just wanted to show that not everyone comes out OK with stupid street driving... One thing that shocked me was that the bus didn't yield to the police.
