Trout fishing near Helen Ga
Heading up there Oct 5-9, and am planning on hitting the upper Hooch and probably Smithgall Woods over the weekend. Both are supposed to be really good with Smithgall being WMA catch and release only that has trophy trout.
Just wondering if anyone has fished these areas before and had advice. I am bringing my ultrlight rig and my fly rod.

You will be in the South. Only trout we have are "green trout"

Don't know much about the trout, but Helen is a fun place. Stay out of "Paul's" rest., it's really bad. Try the Nacoolchee Grill, Michael Shepherd is the executive Chef, and really knows his stuff. The local wines are good, I think three winery's are in the area. Have a nice trip.

Only trout I know of in the south are stocked rainbows. Up north you get lake trout.
Where's ODDJOB UNO?

ultra light is your best friend up here.....I do fly some but where I go it is generally too narrow with trees everywhere to really use the fly rod.
