Nothing new is cool IMHO. Modern SUV's are amazing vehicles and I love 'em. They just aren't hip anymore.

Old FJ's, Broncos, D-90's, Westy's, Land Cruisers, 4Runners, etc. are.

It makes no sense but I don't make the cool rules.

Edit: I reread your post and it appears I completely missed your point.

Carry on.

Totally agree on the older stuff. New ones just don't do it for me. Most are just overgrown cars.

It's cool in my book, but there are a bunch of haters in this forum. They just cannot get past the plastic cladding.

OK, that made me laugh out loud!

With more of an emphasis on sport than utility, I kind of dig the long hood Nissan FX45. That's the V8, I think the newer ones are FX50 or something. But anyway, one of those with a nice aftermarket exhaust does rather flip my switch. Lovely sounding engine.

The new SRT8 Jeep also looks very appealing.

Depends who you are trying to impress. Hard core rock crawler types, no. School mums (too polite to say MILFs :)), yes -

3.0 diesel rocks, it drives better than our last A6 and has enough room for all the family kit plus 7 seats when needed. Whats not to love about that? And the wife loved it thru the winter and we all know, happy wife = happy life, and that is one cool trick -

Ouch!

svandamme 09-29-2011 02:43 AM

i agree, there are no cool SUV's.
I personally wouldn't want one if they gave it to me.

Now a 4x4 off roader, that is something else.
a Willy's Jeep, Maybe a Wrangler... an old beat up Landrover, Landcruiser or a Dodge WC54.. Stuff like that is cool, but they cannot be clean, or just restored (with the exception of the WW2 military vehicles, they are nice restored) , blinged up.

SUV's . Hell to the NO to the Way.

I'm happy with my new to me 2005 Jeep GC Limited I just picked up in Atlanta for my winter car. I don't drive my Unimog (yellow one on the first page) in the winter. With over 150" of snow that starts in Nov. and is here till April, there is just too much road salt used, and I hate to watch a $40-50k truck rot out in a few years! So I picked up the Jeep with zero rust on it for only $12.5k. Sticker new was over $40k! It has all the bells and whistles you can cram into a car! Cleaned and waxoyled the bottom and inside all of the panels already, so I should be all set for the next five years or so.;)

I think most modern SUV's miss the point, they are trying to be cars with the uneccesary weight. For what most people use SUV's for, they would be better off with a TDI Jetta Sportwagen that gets 2-3 times the fuel economy!

That being said, I love my SUV! I use it though...off road, hauling, towing, chauffeur the dog around and it will easily hold two 911 motors in the back! Plus, it's really FUN to drive and economical.

SUVs

Defenders and many of the older ones are cool - Broncos,Scouts, early K5 Blazers

I still prefer body on frames to the newer crossovers but I actually get off road.

But hell what do I know I like old station wagons -- you guys with Porsches know your stuff --- --oops I like them too even the funny water cooled ones -the cars not the guys
