On that one ,I'd guess $500-$750.

on2wheels52 09-30-2011 02:27 AM

1911A1.
To nme it would be worth 3x more if it had been left alone. I'd say Mike is in the area.

Seriously Jim? What's special about it (and I know you've got quite a collection). I had no idea they brought that much...I figured $100, you know 'bout what a Fender twin-reverb is worth :).

ps: Hi Jim (Dueller)...hope you are well!

on2wheels52 09-30-2011 03:07 AM

KC, I'd have more to say about it if it was in my hands. I'm assuming it's a Colt frame (like the slide), can't tell if they match or not. It's been re-blued, different sites, grip safety, & trigger (at the least). But most any Colt that's a shooter will bring $500.
Perhaps I have the wrong attitude about the things but I prefer 'originality' on my keepers. And for the ones I have for sale I don't want to have to explain to the potential buyer why someone f@#$ed up (I meant modified) a perfectly good gun.
another Jim

KFC911 09-30-2011 03:18 AM

I just had no idea an original (unmodified) would fetch upwards of 1500, and I know you "know" these things and have quite a few. Now about that twin-reverb...should I offer $125, or is that too much? :)

Ps: Hope BOTH of you are well...D just hasn't been around much.

azasadny 09-30-2011 03:32 AM

Too bad someone modified that old war horse...

targa911S 09-30-2011 04:46 AM

Yeah, it's a shooter. Had they left it alone it would be in the +1500. But I agree now it's a 500 gun.

My grandfather (WWII vet) passed just a few years ago, and though I haven't laid eyes on it in years, one of my uncles has his (I assume gov. issue). I still vividly remember Pa-Paw shooting it when I was a kid. I don't "care" about the $ (and want to make sure it stays in the family), so I'll make sure my uncle knows...I'm sure he hasn't a clue (I didn't). So, ballpark wise, what's a 30+ year old Combat Commander worth (unmodified, mint condition)? I purchased it new when I was 19 for a couple hundred :).

targa911S 09-30-2011 05:38 AM

I bid $25.00. (here we go again)

Mericet 09-30-2011 05:47 AM

$35!

KFC911 09-30-2011 05:59 AM

Hi Neil! Sorry we haven't had that "cold one" yet, but we will! I'm holding out for On2wheels...he'll offer $40 :)

KC, I have to assume you're talking about two different guns here (one a GI, the other a post-war Combat Commander). I believe 1971 was the first year for the CC, Blue Book says $1000 in 98%, later ones would be less.
Jim

KFC911 09-30-2011 08:41 AM

Yes Jim, the GI was my grandfathers, and the CC is mine (late 70s, purchased new)...Thanks!

Superman 09-30-2011 09:21 AM

$46.

tabs 09-30-2011 10:08 AM

I wouldn't give anyone $500 for that 1911...more like $350.00.

I don't like to make EXCUSES for stuff I sell...

At Rock Island Auctions in Moline Ill at the beginning of September 2011...SN 33 Colt US military 1911 SOLD FOR $109,000.00...I posted a Thread on this Board reflecting that value...

"AND I had no idea they were worth that kind of money..." KC

Missed that thread, but I'm sure that was no ordinary C-ration spoon...or Tabs wouldn't have been interested. My GF's is a run-of-the-mill warhorse that he used a LOT...I remember he used the 6" post to his "smokehouse building" as a backdrop for target practice when I was a youngin'. I just had no clue GI issues fetched what's been thrown out here. His probably isn't, but it's worth a LOT more than that to me. Maybe I'll offer my uncle $47 :). Not really...this thread just cost me a bundle if he would ever let it go...$ I'd gladly spend too! Thanks!

targa911S 09-30-2011 03:59 PM

$49.50 final offer.

on2wheels52 09-30-2011 05:43 PM

Lord knows I have some realitively expensive guns, but as a bit of reality check tabs, just how many people on this forum do you think are willing to pay $100k for a firearm?
Jim
