I'm bummed after such a long wait not to get an iphone 5 w/ bigger screen, etc... Still, I'll be getting a 4S immediately since I'm on Sprint and have unlimited data and talk. The 4S is a massively improved iphone 4, I don't give a shake about the voice command feature. Maybe I'll change my mind when I use it.

Hmm, SIRI is the best part, IMO....

And a few hundred dollars later, so am I. Transferred both my number and my son's, will return his ATT phone tomorrow (still within 30 days of purchase), and now have unlimited everything for $50/line. They throttle after 2GB but that is fine as I don't use the phone for streaming.

It will be interesting to see how well Siri actually works in the real world. Keep in mind that the demo was likely using a trained recognition model.

I don't find the 4S to be a game changer. Dual core chips are now SOP - they are playing catch up there. The graphics chip may be faster. The cameras may be great but you also have to pay a premium for having storage onboard. And remember that Apple has yet to get .mac/mobileMe/iCloud to really work as well as their other stuff. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

"The most impressive part was the demo of Siri, the new assistant that lets you do just about anything you can do on your phone -- but with your voice. We tried to psych it out with a bunch of random requests, including the history of Chester, Vermont (a lovely town) and the best Ramen places in San Francisco. Siri never faltered, never missed a beat. It worked as well as Scott's demo up on the stage. There's nothing better to say than that. We even sent ourselves a few text messages, which Siri transcribed to a T. Of course, the lady on the other end still sounds eerily robotic, but we're hoping for smoother responses from the alien within in a future update." Endgadget....this is only an opinion, I haven't actually used it, OK! I am not calling anyone out, OK!:)

Handset coming out this late in the game with no 4G/LTE radio is pretty fail.

Well, since my last post I've talked to my most trusted techy/gadget advisor and he says that the 4S has "everything he could have hoped for" and that he's ditching his AT&T iphone 4 for a Sprint 4S immediately. He says that the SIRI will be the first VC system ever that actually works and that it's revolutionary from a practical standpoint. I can't wait to try it.

I think a lot of people were really hoping for a product with the number "5" attached to it. I think this release covers 90% of what the rumors had said and there were also rumors that mentioned the "4s".

I'm looking forward to the internal changes but was hoping for a revised shell. I prefer the feel of the 3G over the boxy 4.

I'm going to have to look into this, ans how well T Mobile works in and around Charleston... thanks for the heads up! Right now we're on a family plan that's $90/month with corporate discount that has minimal minutes, 200MB data for her + iphone tax, no data for me and minimal text on both. An equivalent package with AT&T for our two lines would be a lot more than the extra $20 or so. We wouldn't even need new phones since I bought both of them online.

You'd think Jobs croaked the way the stock market is responding.

The catch with the $50 unlimited is that if you want a new phone there is no phone subsidy - you pay full price. But their alternative is no interest financing for 20 months so you can pay the same up front and if you do the math you still end up cheaper than ATT or Verizon. If you have a phone already you're set.

This past month bill ATT double charged me then "prorated" one of the charges for the privelige of buying a new phone and sigining a new 2 year agreement. They also charged me an extra $20 smartphone fee over and above the data plan fee. The CS rep said, "that's how we do it." I return their phones within 30 days, and then not obligated to the new agreement, and switch carriers and cut my monthly bill in half. That's how I do it...

I think so. Apple was the one that broke the news of his death. And they did so quite late in the day.

I'm wondering if there isn't some method to their madness.

It is a most unfortunate event but inevitable. What a visionary.

Yep. Apple is the second most valuable publicly traded company in the world, (after Exxon Mobil), and the big players have been watching his health, (or lack thereof), like a hawk. It's no secret that he had declined this year and if he was on his deathbed, someone knew. even if his death was imminent, I would think that the market would react to that.

Ordered mine this morning. I'll post a review next weekend.

It is now being reported that the local police were alerted to his grave condition to put in additional patrols in the area. This means the insiders knew.

I want it... don't need it as the 3GS is still running but battery life sucks and juicepack does not really help.... thinking about it...

gr8fl4porsche 10-07-2011 11:38 AM

That's my main complaint these days with my 3GS. After 2.5 years of hard service, the battery just isn't what it used to be. Phone was near dead by 2:00 this afternoon. I am a heavy user though - lots of email, internet and 100+ calls everyday. Looking forward to some increased speeds!
