No iPhone5

Looks like the 4S is all we get. The drama is over.

Faster
Better battery life
Now up to 64gig.
More voice recognition features with Siri the assistant..
8 mega camera with better and faster features
1080p HD video
improved antennae
Worldphone - 1 model for all networks
Sprint
Able to handle 4G speeds (did not say the phone is specifically 4G)

I think lots of folks are disappointed but the big A will still sell a ton of them.
I'm placing my order on Friday simply because my 2 yr old 3GS is getting a little beat up and my daughter is expecting it to be hers.

porsche4life 10-04-2011 11:19 AM

I'll be ordering one too. My 3gs is done. I suspect my mom will be too, she has my old 3g...

So when does os5 and Cloud come to market?

porsche4life 10-04-2011 12:57 PM

I would assume it would all come out on the 14th when the new phones hit consumer hands...

Rick Lee 10-04-2011 12:59 PM

Verizon, here I come.

gr8fl4porsche 10-04-2011 01:11 PM

I am thinking Verizon as well but am tempted to try the new antennae on ATT first.

Yep, iOS 5 and the cloud on release day.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-04-2011 01:15 PM

Staying with my 32GB iPhone 4.

Not much new under the sun from Apple. The iPhone 5 better breathe fire and make toast on demand.

widgeon13 10-04-2011 01:15 PM

Just saw an article on MacLife that os5 and icloud coming 10/12. We'll see.

porsche4life 10-04-2011 01:20 PM

I've got to stick with ATT, they have the best network in this part of the world. The service on my 3gs has been good for a little over 2yrs. The phone is getting unresponsive... Time for a new one.

I wouldn't stay with AT&T if they paid me to. I can't use my iPhone anywhere ever. The $70 I dropped for a used microcell was almost a total waste too. Thank God, my company gave me a Verizon Blackberry, which is my main phone because AT&T doesn't work anywhere I ever am. They are so useless. I've been counting the days until the new iPhone comes out or my AT&T contract expires in December. I don't mind paying a month or two of prorated early termination fee if it means I can start using my iPhone.

I am underwhelmed, and I doubt Siri will work as well as it did in the demo. We do research in natural language recognition and it can be problematic. Plus you need to have a data connection. Cha-ching.

Just got a $250 bill from ATT for the past month. I had gotten a new phone (now returned) and upgraded my son's phone. Lot's of double charges because of the way they do things. Went back and forth with an online support person about it. I think I'll return the boy's phone and cancel ATT completely. T-Mobile is doing $50/mo per line for family plan with unlimited everything. I doubt the signal could be any worse than ATT in my area, and at least there will be no surprises in the bill (like going 6MB over 200MB on my son's like cost another $15). Truth be told I prefer the iPhone interface to Android but I can live without an iPhone...

Rick Lee 10-04-2011 02:06 PM

Does T-Mobile sell iPhones or do you have to have a jailbroken one to use with them? I have no idea if T-Mobile is any good out here.

nostatic 10-04-2011 02:16 PM

T-Mobile doesn't have the iPhone and I don't do the jailbreak/rooting thing. I just want the phone to work. I can live without an iPhone. When/if they merge with ATT things will change. My hope would be that the $50/mo would be grandfathered in for some amount of time.

They all suck one way or another...

JavaBrewer 10-04-2011 02:34 PM

Inquire among your friends who is on TM and invite them over to your home for drinks. You would hate to discover that your new apartment is one street into a dead zone. I used to have Sprint and the signal would gradually drop to zero as I neared my home. Same as Rick with ATT a phone with no signal at my home (which is also currently my office) is worthless.

Initially I rooted my ATT Captivate so I could remove ATT bloat apps. Then I discovered XDA and have been running a custom ROM for nearly 2 years now. Fixed all the crap that ATT broke/disabled/removed. Light years better performance and battery life. Suck it ATT. ;)

BlueSkyJaunte 10-04-2011 02:57 PM

I've been very happy with T-mo. But I use an Android phone. Which, incidentally, works just fine.

red-beard 10-04-2011 03:29 PM

You will only get 2G on an iPhone with T-Mobile. And you may get AT&T back in a year or so...

azasadny 10-04-2011 04:36 PM

When my 3GS dies, which will be soon... I'll get an Android. No more iPhones for me or my wife, we both hate them...

jyl 10-04-2011 05:07 PM

I'll get my daughter a $99 iPhone 4 to replace her iPhone 3G. I am undecided about getting a iPhone 4S, leaning against it, not enough has changed.

What?? Not enough has changed? The only thing not changed is the exterior. The processor is 2x faster with 7x faster graphics with the Camera at 8 meg w/2.4 aperture. 1080p video with image stabilization???? How is that not HUGE change?? A game changer again if you ask me. Sign me up!
