The 2 second club, no, not that kind

This month's Road and Track has a feature about 3 cars that go 0-60 in under 3 seconds.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/comparison/the-two-second-club
Getting under 3.0 has been a barrier for a long time. According to the Article the Corvette ZR1 is VERY close at 3.5 and the Ferrari 458 Italia at 3.0 which is impressive for cars that are only 2 wheel drive, but the three cars that dip below 3.0 are the Nissan Skyline GTR, the Porsche Turbo S and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Supersport.

I thought it was interesting that they said that this time out the Porsche Turbo S was actually a bit slower than the last time that they tested it probably because this is a car that's been beat on by journalists for a lot longer.

This test was held on the 8000 foot runway at Ellington field which is about 3 miles from my house and almost literally in 125Shifter/David's back yard. I wish I'd known about it, I'd have been there.

There was also a short side article where they let a shuttle astronaut drive the Veyron (acceleration run for 5000 of the 8000 feet) and compare it to launching in the shuttle. His comments were interesting. http://www.roadandtrack.com/special-report/5-questions-with-drew-feustel-butch-leitzinger

Talk about blistering the pavement!

It's truly unbelievable to someone my age, who grew up when a 7-second 0-60 time = muscle car, to see this level of performance. Mind-blowing. The Bugatti is a rocket on wheels and the Porsche does 0-100 in the time that Carreras did 0-60 in the '80s.

Wow.

It's kind of scary to think that they will let any idiot capable of writing the check loose with one of these missiles on public roads.

Fantastic!

Being a Euro-turd, I would like the see the measurements in km/h, 0-100 (0-62 mph).

And, for about $12K, you can walk into most motorcycle dealerships and buy a bike that will run with the Bugatti...

Bikes have been doing 0-60 in under 3 seconds since the mid-eighties. They'd be faster, but for the pesky wheelspin and wheelies...

In very rounded figures, the shuttle goes from 0 to 18,000 mph in 12 minutes. That's another 1500 mph each minute. 0-100 in 7 seconds for twelve minutes. That seems.......out of this world.

It's kind of impressive and surprising to me that the Turbo S is in this elite group. Special drivers' licenses should be required, along with random drug testing.

Think about drag racing measures. What struck me, is that the Veyron is a 9 second 1/4 mile car!!!! Stock!! I remember seeing a '69 Camaro run 9 seconds and it pulled the front wheels about 2 feet off the ground! These cars are just incredible.

I heard a story that some dude in a 911 TurboS that ran a local drag strip. They would not let him run a second time because the car was sub 12 seconds. The track rules were any car running in the 11s had to have a full roll cage. I don't know enough about drag racing to know it that is true or not.

My local track is relaxing that standard for modern cars. There are just so many of them running that fast. Depends on the class they're running, but if it's just for fun it's run-what-ya-brung.....

I read that article and was like, "why didn't I know about this?!?!?!"

It would have been cool to see a Bugatti doing 200mph right by the house.

Forget the dealership. Pick up a cared for Suzuki Hayabusa off craigslist, $6-7k. Sub 3 seconds, chip it and it will go 200+

Yeah but at least there's a chance that you may survive owning one of these cars.

I've owned plenty of fast motorcycles. There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there aren't to many old bold pilots. Its a good thing to always be just a bit nervous on a motorcycle.
