Mergers and Acquisitions...

Dang, did I pick a hell of a day to be out sick...

E-mailed my manager and team-lead this morning that I was going to be out sick today. I got an e-mail back in minutes, saying feel better, etc etc. Not more than 15 minutes after that I get a followup that our company has been acquired. It was all official as of 9:30 this morning. Wow.

I get a call on my cell at about 3:00 from the HR department and the gentleman asks to go over what I do, my role(s) and I should get a call back later in the afternoon with the yea/nay on whether I make the cut. He calls back around 5:00...

Apparently I made the roster for the "New" us, but others were not so lucky. A few just walked out and left before the end of the day. I'm going to stop by tomorrow and pick up my new "packet" and "corporate handbook". It's been almost 6 years since I was part of a large corporation, but I'm hoping that this acquisition will be fore the better of our company in the long run. Comparing how things 'operate' (and I use that term loosely) currently and to the direction we're trying to go, this will definitely be a big, positive step.

At least, I hope so. Time will tell, right?

What kind of company asks you what you do over the cell phone on a day off? Typically, there is some writing up of positions, and some analysis involved. What if you didn't answer the phone? "Well, he didn't answer the phone....his job must not be important...." WTF?

New corporate handbook the next day? Holy change management plan, batman! Glad you (still) have a job but what kind of hellish place is that to work in?

How many employees are we talking? That's wicked fast.

It took almost two years for my old company to become fully integrated with the new company. Hell my pay checks still had the old name on them for a looooooong time.

Wacky.

You need a "plan B."

Polish your resume NOW. Kick up the networking. Be actively engaged so that if / when the wheels fall off the bus you are not caught flat footed.

I have experienced a similar situation. Your company will never be the same.

Good luck.

Tell your new company that your role involves mission-critical deployments including directing the efforts of staff (including your former managers that were let go). Enjoy your new promotion.

VaSteve, I was asking myself the same questions. I guess it was REALLY important they go over everyone. They may have had someone doing the same thing in-house yesterday and someone else making the calls. I don't know, honestly.

Mark, PM'd ya.

BRPORSCHE, our company *was* about 55 employees. I'm curious what the new number is.

LWJ, I have been updating my resume on the various sites every month for the past 4 months (right before I got my promotion). I was going to use any serious offers to help increase the offer for my new salary, but it ended up not being necessary. I am definitely keeping my eyes open for what else may be in my area for development/design.

POP... Good idea! I'll have to incorporate that into my role description
