would a "tasteful" tattoo keep you from hiring someone?

let's pretend the tattoo is NOT an image of satan impaling some naked woman..

something tasteful, like a cherry blossom branch on a woman's forearm..a visible tattoo.

dealbreaker at the interview table?

i work in construction as an engineer anything short of a face tattoo, especially one of the "dark one" would probably be ok.

Once someone gets one - they've got it, not really anything they can do about it...

You shouldn't automatically write off because of it. Only reason I could see is if image really mattered for what your hiring, and a tattoo doesn't fit that image.

Maybe Noah930 will see this and chime in. He works in a plastic surgery center. Almost everyone in that office has visible tattoos. Hasn't hurt their business.

I don't think it's a big deal anymore. Especially with so many out there with them.

Many of the teachers at my child's Catholic have visible tattoos. Who cares? Tattoos are a non issue in Seattle.

I agree this day in age it is not a big deal as long as the person presents themselves well

Dave came over to an office happy hour, once. He remarked that it seemed as if everyone in my office has copious and conspicuous tattoo coverage. Half the people in my office/surgery center have tattoos (though none of the docs). We joke that it's almost a job requirement to get them. So for secretaries, nurses, surgical techs, and medical assistants, it's OK.

I would go out of my way to avoid hiring anyone with a ratio of any kind. In fact, I do.

Autocorrect?

Not a prob for me either, unless it were something really outrageous and the employee would be customer-facing. We sell into very conservative corporate and government orgs.

Um, that would be the iPhone auto-correcting my spelling. Read "tattoo" for "ratio" and you'll get what I mean. I have no compunction against hiring poor spellers.

Guess I'm just too conservative. To me, tattoos, speak of a loss of old-fashioned values.

I think I'd rather hire a person with a tattoo rather than a poor speller.

I'm sure somewhere back in the 50's women with pierced ears where not looked upon favorably in the work place. Heck, an old, old study indicated women with colored hair were more promiscuous. While I don't care for tattoos, I could hire a tattooed person.

I'll bet my bank won't, though. Of course, I've not seen beyond the sleeves of anyone at the bank.

Uncle Zeke, down South OC way, they are actually fairly common, and not just for douchebags like me.

Not so sure I like the idea of a guy with an orange afro looking down on the tattooed masses.

A "Tasteful" tattoo is one you can't see.

Like: "Slippery when Wet", or some such.

If its tasteful, it wouldn't affect my decision at all.
