i grow to hate paypal more and more everyday

i needed a bunch of supplies for the office, including 4 new printers, paper, ink, etc etc, and used the walmart in-store pickup feature of their website to order everything. total came to just under $450 and i used paypal to pay for it. got to the store and found they did not have any of the printers instock even though the site said they did, and the genius at walmart had no idea how to cancel the order. i called walmart from inside walmart (ironic huh?) and had the order cancelled. they immediately issued a refund to my paypal account and i was on my way.

got home tonight and logged into paypal to find they had placed a hold on the refund. naturally i was pissed so i called paypal and was told it would be a 7-10 business day wait until the funds were deposited into my paypal account, then another 3-5 business days until they would be deposited back into my bank. they tried to give me some bs line about how they actually "fronted" me the money to pay walmart even though it had already shown as a withdrawal from my bank account today. walmart has issued the refund, so paypal has it's (supposed) "fronted" money back, they have the cash from my bank account and i have to wait to have up to 3 weeks to get my money back.

i hate those bastards and i think i am going to cancel my account. i am really sick of all the $hit they pull.

My wife just got a hold put on her PP account to the tune of around $500. She's flipping stuff on eBay and some Chinese chat boards. So now she's out the money and can't collect for 30 days. No suspicion of fraud. PP just slapped her with a 30 day hold.

Sounds like my deal with Bank of America. I deposited $500 to my Visa card, but the wrong one (it had no balance). I called them up the next day and they said they would send me a check since there was nothing they could do electronically (WTF?).

After 3 weeks, no check. I call today and she says she can just transfer it to my other Visa...

How do you expect PP to make interest on your money if it's back in your account?

I'm fed up with PP and only use it for those 'absolutely have to' transactions. I'll gladly call and use my CC or mail a Postal M.O. to avoid giving PP their fees. This is after having my account "UN-VERIFIED", having been a legit and verified PP user for almost 7 years. Ridiculous. It's not about buyer protection anymore, it's about their revenue stream protection.

I use it only for eBay purchases and not surprisingly I've never had a problem.

Why would you use it to buy something from Wallmart when you have to go in and pick it up anyway? Is it cheaper or something?

Paypal sucks. Just cancelled our account.

Got a real nasty letter. And so will never go back or use them or ebay.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-07-2011 05:24 AM

They sent you a nasty letter for canceling?

Do share... This could be very interesting...

When receiving funds, I always ask for them to be sent as a gift so as to avoid the fees.

yep. usually the .com has a lower price than the store does, but not always. additionally i don't have to bother with going into the store and waiting in line, i just walk in and pick it up at the front of the store and walk out.

If you buy from wallyworld.com do you HAVE to use PayPal? Can't you just charge it on the card directly? It seems like that would have mitigated this whole rant and issue.

I only use it for ebay or when I have to. I've not had a problem yet. I am also not set up to accept payments through them.

nineball 10-07-2011 07:44 AM

i don't have a wallyworld, it is walmart.

it doesn't matter how payment was made as that is not the issue here. the issue is how paypal handled the transaction and subsequent refund. while i can appreciate you trying to increase the complexity of this situation by adding in factors that are beside the point the simple fact is that i was in the field at the time and did not have the company credit card with me. i did however have access to paypal via my phone which should not have resulted in such a problem.

You know that when you do that, they just charge the fees to the sender, right?

Yes. I suggest using a credit card to forward payments via PayPal. You have that extra layer of, pick one:

1. Corporate bureaucracy
2. Credit card protection for faster refunds

no they don't. i send and receive gift payments all the time and that has never happened. now someone with a different type of account may be subject to those fees but i have never been.

Only if the sender is using a CC rather than funds in their account. If the sender has $ in their paypal account, a gift transaction has no fees on either side.

Can you lodge a complains with an organisation? (Government or other)

If you think Paypal is being dishonest or taking advantage of people surely there is something you can do about it.

Here in Aus we have the ACCC. ACCC Home
If you have an issue with a credit card company, bank or telco you can lodge a complaint with them and they'll investigate the issue.
I've never dealt with them but I know it takes a long time (months) to get anything resolved but at least there is someone you can do about it.

Personally I would do something about it. Don't just let it ride.

nineball 10-07-2011 08:24 AM
