Good luck on finding her a home. I have 2 and they are the greatest.

Baz, I gave all of Kiwis info to a girl I know that does rescues here in NJ. She is going to look into it. She has 2 coming up from SC in a few days. Hopefully she can do something. Maybe get her up here

Wow Vinman...that's awesome!

I just got off the phone with the shelter and Kiwi is now with an area foster mom so she is SAFE! :D

I left my name and contact details for her foster mom to contact me - so that I can pass along for anyone who is interested in adopting her.

For now, the best thing to do is to stay in touch with the shelter. Kiwi has foster angels looking over her. ;)

Let's keep each other posted as appropriate...and thanks again!!! SmileWavy

VINMAN 10-08-2011 04:54 PM

Excellent!! Thats great to hear. Hopefully the foster will end up keeping her. I really want to take her myself.

herman maire 10-08-2011 05:10 PM

Glad to hear that... If I was not so far, I would be happy to help out.

Vinny - Cool...at this point as far as I know no one has dibs on her so go for it if your friend can make arrangements for transport and if you all can coordinate with her Foster Mom.

The shelter's number is [Adoption] 864-583-4805 -- ext. 101.

The Foster Mom's name is Michelle.

Best thing I ever did was to get my youngest, Billabong, from a kill shelter in Louisiana. She turned out to be my oldest, Winkipop's BFF! They're actually only about a year apart but WP is the alpha being she was here first.

Kiwi would fit right in here but I'm not sure I could handle having three dogs - but if I did I would love to have this sweetie.

Keep us posted and I will too if I hear anything. ;)

smart and pretty count for something. she will find a home.

realisticly, i can't make a 15 year commitment to a dog i've never met. eventually a heeler will show up in the pound around here. i'll save that one.

this morning on the beach

i do the "pet page" at the paper every week. about a dozen local businesses sponsor ads with pictures of animals at the shelter. i take the images in to photoshop and fluff up the fur, give them bigger puppy eyes, and a general makeover to make them cuter.

The latest on Kiwi:
Per the shelter director in an email this morning:

Quote:

Kiwi had to come back to the shelter. She did not get along with the other dogs in that home.
As most of you know there are many dynamics involved in a household with pets so not sure what this message means regarding Kiwi's personality or her potential to live with other dogs but I will try to get more specifics In the meantime, I would think she would at the very least be a great potential single dog household pet....

VINMAN 10-10-2011 03:56 PM

Thats too bad. Its also possible that it was just the other dogs

Vinny - Absolutely. I am going to try and find out what happened. This was a foster situation not a forever home - I don't know the circumstances but it didn't seem like Kiwi was given much time to assimilate! Don't want to jump to conclusions. I will get back to the thread sometime tomorrow with an update.

Is your friend still working on a transport? I know a dog person in PA who said she would be willing to foster her or if you want first dibs...keep me posted and I will as well...thanks! SmileWavy Baz

These are the 3 Petfinder "file photos" of my rescue girl, "Billabong" when I first heard about her in the Roicy, Louisiana animal shelter. It was a kill shelter but she had been "held over" for 3 weeks past her original date to be PTS. When I saw these pics my heart was broken that such a sweet little dog had been just 'dumped' essentially like garbage and that no one wanted her anymore...

To make a long story short....we pulled her - and she spent a week in Baton Rouge before we worked out a transport to get her to Florida via 6 different vehicle teams! Here she is after a bath and vet checkup a day after being pulled...

That was 5 years ago.

It was the best decision I ever made in my life...Billabong and the female I already had, Winkipop, have been best buds ever since!

One year later:

And from this past June:

As many of you already know - this is an incredible breed of dog - and there are PLENTY of this breed who are left behind in shelters each and every day around the world...mostly because their humans are too dumb to keep up with their smart dog!

944Larry 10-10-2011 06:59 PM

Baz-I'll probably catch flak for this but maybe we should be putting some of these dumb people in shelters. I don't care what you do anymore some idiot is going to come along and ruin it for everybody.

You are so right, Larry. doG is my co-pilot but not these stupid humans!

Hey - here's a little video of my girls - Winkipop only in the first half then both of them - if you look closely at the first scene with them both together (drinking water) you can see some stitches on WP's side where she had a run in with something bigger and faster than she was....tough breed!!! Enjoy!

Great video Baz. Really shows the gusto this breed has for life. I believe you need a pair to really enjoy them though. Their loyalty is amazing. When I was clearing horse pasture behind the house my female would ride on the dozer right beside me.
