New F150 prices?

I bought one of my F150s, a 2006 XLT extended cab model with the 5.4L V8 new for $18,900. It was one of those Saturday ad specials at the local Ford dealer (Capistrano Ford). I thought I'd just drive this thing into the ground, but it now has 91,000 miles on it and I'm starting to think of replacing it with another ad-special truck, before something major happens in the way of expense. I figure I can get $9K for the truck (it has hail damage on the roof).

I doubt I can score a 2011 for similar money, but anyone have the pulse on what basic (cloth seats, extended cab, V8, power doors/windows/locks) XLT models are going for now? I'm hoping $22K-ish. For $13K out of pocket, I can beat on a new truck for another 5 years and not worry about maintenance expenses. Am I dreaming?

I''ve always bought used, well maintained F-150s, and they have served me well. I pay for the repairs. I only let them go it they start looking ratty.

Those of you with experience....What would you consider too many miles on an F-150 V8. I'm sort of looking for a tow vehicle. I really only need it to be clean and have air conditioning. It would not be my daily driver.

Mine blew a head gasket at 200k (97 4.6). It was not uncommon. Steel block, aluminum heads with a viton type gasket.

91k is not a good time to let it go. I'd keep it til 120 and stay away from mainenance you can defer to the next owner (shocks, disks, tires, etc.). Basically just drive it down to where you can sell it in a year or two.

Not sure but North of $22k and you want the 3.5 twin turbo EcoBoost, not the V8. The EcoBoost is +$750 and a better engine than the new 5.0.

I consider around 100k to be the line where stuff will start going wrong. Alternators, water pumps, window regulators, that kind of stuff. Annoying.

Cater to your next buyer. 100,000 miles is a big magic number. It will be worth disproportionately less after it crosses 100. If you're going to sell it, do it sooner than later. Your base of potential buyers will be higher.... you'll sell it faster, for more money.

Wait until 120K and the loss in sale price will make replacing tires, brakes, rotors, etc relatively small.

Just my opinion. YMMV

This is a good time to buy a 2011 as the 2012s are already out.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. At a certain point, these things are worth $5K. I'd love to unload before that point.

So far, I'm getting "over the phone" quotes of $6K off of MSRP on $33K trucks. Going to have to dig deeper to make me move... there should be good Saturday ads this weekend for Columbus Day.

F150

I bought my 2006 F150 about a 18 months ago. It had 28,000 miles on the clock and still had a little bit of factory warranty left. It had an original list price of a little over $34k and I got it for $15k. Since then I have put another 28k on it with the only major expenditure being a new set of tires. Hope it goes another 50-60k without any other spendy items needed! Hard to beat getting a barely broken in vehicle for less than half price!

Best bang for the buck, IMHO is a 2010 F150 STX Supercab 2WD with the 4.6L V8 and 18K miles for just under $20K. They're out there....

If spending more than $25K, make sure you get one with a pickup bed at least 6 feet long.

You can't call it a pickup if it ain't got at least a 6.5' bed.

At the local Ford dealers this AM: Had a group of 2011 F150 Supercrews, XLT trim, V6 auto with MSRP of $33,5K and had on sale for $25,5.

IIRC the 5.0L V8 added $1K to the price and the Ecoboost another $750 to that. Not sure why but all the Ecoboost vehicles they had on the lot were 4WD??

At 122K on my 98 150 I have replaced the tires 1X, The Front Discs 2X Battery 1X, Belts and Hoses 1X

Problems
1. Rear Brake line leaked..replaces rear brake lines at apx 115K
2. Replaced Fuel pump 121K

Oil Changed every 4K to 5 K miles

I drive an average of 200 miles a month in LV...does it pay for me to buy a new or newer truck? The answer in NO I do not need a depreciating asset that sits in the garqge most of the time. I have depreciated my truck all out..and should drive it till it drops.

Villa Ford had a 1 at this price listed at $20,800 in the paper this morning. 2011 XLT 5.0 Super Cab. Capistrano Ford had 2 listed at $11K off of sticker. I chickened out. Mine is still pretty nice and drives like a Cowboy Cadillac should, so I'm going to hang onto it for a few more years.

This probably doesn't help but an F150 won't hold as much value used as a diesel. Sure the diesel option costs more on paper but trucks on the lot can be had for little more than gas 1/2 tons and always end up selling for much more.
