Any Corvette owners here?
For me, I owned three Corvettes before I got into Porsches. My latest one was a rare 2007 Indy 500 Pace Car Edition Corvette. Only 500 of these particular Corvettes were made, and mine was the 294th out of those 500. It was great, but one thing I didn't exactly like about it was it had an automatic transmission. In fact, the other two Corvettes I owned were also equipped with an automatic. I always wanted a Corvette with a manual transmission, but could never get ahold of one
![]() ![]() ![]() In late 2012, I had to part with the 'Vette since my wife wanted to buy an SUV as our new family car since my son and daughter had become teenagers, so we no longer needed our 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan. However, instead of getting rid of the van, my wife opted to get rid of the 'Vette instead, but for good reason: I only drove it during the weekends, so most of the time it just sat in the garage. The final decision was up to my then-14-year-old son since he was going to be its next owner once he got his driver's license, so he initially wanted us to keep it. After my son reluctantly made up his mind, I finally traded the 'Vette in for a 2009 Cayenne GTS, and so once again ended my Corvette ownership. Now, in all its glory, a photo of the last Corvette I owned: ![]() Getting back to the main idea, aside from our Porsches, anyone else here also own (or owned) any Corvettes?

I've owned a couple. There are a few that have, even a couple that race them. But generally, Corvette is a dirty word to most here.

(I've never owned one, but I think the C7 is a really interesting car.) Glad you came back Eric. I've missed your posts!

I disagree. I drive a 997S, and I like Vettes. Oddly, I lust after a C3. I know they're not very good cars, but those curves.....hubba hubba.
The newest Corvette is a great looking car.....except for that VERY unfortunate back end.

Some corvettes aren't popular. But the more modern ones that handle decent at least get respect for that. I'd snap up a cheap Z06 in a heart beat.

You've been here four months. I guess I'm looking back over a few years and generalizing. Do a search and it will be clear.

Ah, I see. My last name is Herrala, I'm partially Finnish. Many Finnish last names end in 'ala',

Just a few years ago, I think 5, I owned a beautiful 64 Roadster, white, original paint, 327, 360 horse numbers matching 4 speed car with, when I sold it, 110k miles. It was a fun car but I drove it to work and back for a while, I thought if I kept it I wanted to change things, disc brakes and such, then it wouldn't be original, it wasn't a good car for road trips, rode to rough, ran down the freeway at over 3k rpms, I only kept it a little over a year and sold it. I really did like it but, things come and go.
I did make money on it and would buy another 63-67. |

I like Porsches, but also like corvettes. I've never owned a 'vette. My dad had an '82. It was fun. I prefer the looks of the C5 to the looks of the C6, but you can't argue with the performance of the C6 over the C5. I think the C7 is pretty darn stellar looking. I was driving to work one day and had only seen one or two, so I wasn't super familiar. I saw something on the road up ahead of me that looked pretty cool and European. I got my phone out and was ready to snap a pic, but when I got close enough, I figured out that it was a C7. I like them from all angles.
If I had to pick, I'd have a Porsche, but I'd love to own and drive a 'vette for a while. I've got a soft spot in my heart for a SBC. And of course, the early models, say starting in '55 or 56 up through '67 are all very hot. For C3 it's only the first 2 or 3 years and the last year that I'd have.

I had a 2008 Z06 for a while. It was a monster for sure, and I liked the small block 427 idea. With the traction control turned off you could see how much power it really had. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and don't miss it too much. It was kind of like driving a batmobile.

I owned a 78 4spd for a while. It wasn't a great machine, kinda like a curvy caprice when you got down to the nuts and bolts of things. But these later generation cars are pretty interesting and I have been told are very quick and handle nothing like that old beast. I'd buy one, but I'm not totally sold on the "Camaro" rear end they have on this last generation. Bang for your buck I think they might be hard to beat.

I like the C7 from the front and sides, but can't make myself like the Camaro back end. I prefer the styling of the C6 Z06, which I find to be a great looking car.
