Car Show Trophys

If you were a helicopter pilot rescuing wounded personnel in a war zone and a hero you would not get the kind of trophy/award they hand out at car shows for being good with q-tips and cleaning your car. Seems very silly to me. Am I missing something?

Your input is welcome.

To me the best thing about car shows is seeing the old hot rods and young women (NOT OLD WOMEN!) exposing their cleavage.

You will like this. I once helped a group of volunteers renovate a Kart track (I don't know why I capitalized 'kart") but it was my home track. We had a dumpster delivered. So this guy I wasn't too familiar with shows up with his own back hoe. Great! And he did a lion's share of work.

Quietly, he threw 200 trophies in the dumpster. I started to really pay attention to this guy and he became a good casual friend. That was the epitome of a humble man.

I don't know what to say, I have a couple of trophies for racing but you would not be impressed. What they mean to me is different.

I am only interested in the trophies that where not easy to get. If an event is passing out a lot of trophies for just anything, it devalues them.

"I am only interested in the trophies that where not easy to get."
Then don't bother with car shows. It seems you get a trophy for just showing up.

Hello.... it's all about the money. More trophies=more cars =more money next time for the car show operator.

Won a few...tossed most of them. No longer "do" the car club thing.

My father is real active in the car show scene, and he does a lot of judging. Every Monday morning , I hear all the stories of grown men taking fits, because their car did not get a trophy that given day. He has had people threaten him.
He always asks me to help, but I am so uninterested in that noise.

I see people at local car shows proudly displaying 3-foot trophies for 1st in class (there were only 2 cars in the class). Goofy.

Suggestion: see if you can donate those old trophies in the attic to local charitable organizations. Many of them can recycle them by putting a new name plate on them. There are links to places online that recycle as well.

In retrospect, I should have contacted the local special olympics before giving mine to the trash...

Yep, the new trophies I've seen are gold or silver colored plastic, not metal like the "old school" trophies...

We have a commemorative model truck made for our Truck Show every year and our staff creates the trophies for the show by hand using that year's model.

This was from about 8 years ago.

This is from our 2008 show

edit - something happened to the color when Pelican got ahold of it. It's NOT that bright green color!

This is from last year. The show truck was a "distressed" 1932 Ford. I distressed it some more and one of our artists painted the funky billboard. Pelican is still doing something weird with the green colors.

This is our 2011 trophy. The truck is a 1953 IHC and the trophy was inspired by the Raymond Lowey-designed IHC service centers of the 1950s. Those are pictures of myself and some other staff members in the showroom. Again, Pelican is making the colors weird.

I got a beer stein this weekend at a local PCA event. Sad part is I didn't even wash my car. Still had greasy hand prints on the fender. pulled up the carpets. Meanwhile there were plenty of the q-tip crowd that came away with nothing. I'll use it for beer - I would have preferred to be at the track.

There has to be a good way to donate or reuse old trophies. Like giving them to kids. Trophies are like crack to little kids, especially when they're for cool stuff like cars.

This is a timely thread. I was just at the CVG carshow in New Albany, OH. I noticed that the awards classes were not equitable. Examples:

Cars had
Best of '50, '60, '70
Best Camaro
Best Mustang
Best Chevrolet
Best Lambo
Best Ferrari
People's Choice Award

Not equitable as there was a very nice Cougar, it could have won best of '70 or people's choice award, but there was not a best Mercury...

Motorcycles had
Best Custom
Best Harley-Davidson
Best Sport Bike
People's Choice Award

There was a nice little restored stock CB350 that could only have won the People's Choice award, which it did. If there was a Best H-D, why was there not a Best Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki etcetera.

Also, I don't know how anyone won the people's choice awards as the people didn't get a vote sheet to submit.

I learned a lot while paying attention to how the categories were stacked.
