I will confess that some under the car detailing happened...but 20 minutes to change & rotate? Uh, I like to let the oil drain a LOT longer than that...

Why, if the oil is warm , like if you have just driven the car..
It will come out there like greased lightening.
Those few straggler drops of oil in there... really won't make the difference.
It's a moot point considering the size of a 911's oil system and the different pockets that will always remain..

Unless you put the car on a rotating jig and shake it around a bit, you'll never get all those last drops out anyway.
There will be 5 cc in that pocket, 6 cc in the other, bit more in the popes, the pomp, the galleries...

I can envision you sitting there... cheering on the car.. common boy, another drop, you can DO IT !!! GIIVE ME ONE MORE DIRTY DROP OF OIL !!!!

For what... 10 cc worth of drops? or at most, less then 5% of the total oil remaining in the system?

I'll tell you.. Because they probably do not drain the oil, they suck it out through the filler. You really do not wanna know how much oil remains in the block with that method,the amount of oil that doesn't even get's changed.. You really should do your oil change yourself again, if it matters that much to you.
But you apparently don't care, you sit there in the waiting room with your coffee and magazine, feeling happy about yourself, while the a trainee tech get's given the job of changing the oil on your Precious Stang.. And yes, a n00b worked on your car, cause the experienced tech can't be arsed to do a lowly oil change... And i can't blame him , there's no challenge to it... open filler, insert sucker, suck, add oil, close filler cap.



I wonder how much time you'll need to do it on the Stang.. Not sure how much time you wanna spend cheering for more drops to come out...It's a difficult thing to predict and plan for...

My DD, well my only running car, is a Ford Focus. I sure wish my dealer experience was anything close to yours. They couldn't fix a popped chain on a bicycle. Had my car in for warranty work 3 times, and it still has the same problem over and over again with the added bonus of now being out of alignment.

Now that I am out of warranty my car will never see the dealer again, even for the free state inspection.

It also took time to move Cindy's car out of the garage, lay down cardboard for drips, get the 911 on the stands, pull the wheels, run it until oil got to 180 on the gauge, etc. I included that time as well. If I only count the time of removing the drain plugs, R&R the fliter, replace filter, replace drain plugs with new crush washers, pour in new oil? Yeah, 20 minutes.


And the Mustang? It's only a Ford, easily replaced, hardly "precious" to me...and that's the beauty of it! I got damned tired of fretting over the irreplaceable...a never wrecked or repainted '72 S.

Also, if you think only the highly skilled technicians do the oil changes at Porsche dealerships, you're mistaken. Yep, Porsche dealers use the young trainee types, just like Ford dealers use. That doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing, though...oil changes are pretty simple, really. Suck the old oil out through the filler? That would be quite a trick...with all the overhead cam stuff to work through. Maybe you meant the dipstick tube?

Oh...a tip for those who do change oil on their conventional iron. If you have the time, let it all drip overnight. Replace the plug & filter the next morning, when everything is cool and easy...

It really must gall some of you...all these buyers of Mustang among those who post here...Kurt merely the latest. From a Boss 302 to my low on the pecking order Bullitt.

What can I say...Mustang is one hell of a bang for the buck. But rest easy, Porsche will continue to have a HUGE edge in snob appeal.

I understand now that you are probably better off without the 911. Cause you obviously didn't know how to enjoy the darn thing properly.

See. the fun way of doing things (and better for the engine), would be to First drive the car, that's what it is for, that's why you bought it.
And when you DROVE the engine to the right temp, THEN you jack it up and change the oil

Jacking it up, pulling the wheels and then running the engine to temp is just trolling the engine... just like you're trolling the Porsche board with yer Stank.

I hope that the car is enjoyed better by it's current owner.

Driving it made it difficult to get the oil to temp...that '72 front radiator cooler, you know. Fear not for me, I had my good times with the old 911S. Just not so much the last few years, as it's value increased.

BTW, be thankful not many Mustangs where you live...a good one would embarrass you...Does it anger P-car people that Detroit is finally catching on?

Stangs don't go fast around here, not when gasoline costs 8.65 dollar per gallon.
They mostly idle around on the right lane on the highway, at 90kph being overtaken by trucks.
While i'm crusing at 160 on the left.

None of these over there yet? They may have ugly graphics, like a GT3, but they are quite fast. Beware...they are faster around Laguna Seca than the BMW M3...160 clicks...Wow! That's amost 100 MPH! Amazing...not. That's right lane speed for stretches of the Autobahn. Better keep you eyes in the mirror.

I don't think the issue is that Paul has a Mustang. I'm sure they're great cars, and they do appeal to a certain demographic. The issue is Paul's constant baiting/trolling of the virtues of his Mustang, on a Porsche BBS. When people do become tired of his old man musings, he immediately calls them out as Porsche snobs. I mean, what's the point? How long are you guys going to put up with being called snobs? I find it very fascinating
