hey, I'm legit (sorta)

A couple of years ago I decided that I wasn't getting any younger, and that since playing music fed my soul I needed to focus on doing that. In 2010 I made it a priority and played 50+ gigs, many of them with the nursing home collective. Toward the end of 2010 I finally put together my own band with a keyboardist friend and we started playing anywhere/anytime we could. So far in 2011 I'm at over 100 gigs and we're pushing hard to play more festivals and shows in 2012. I've gotten to know a couple of bass makers and have good relationships with them. I've also put some feelers out with other brands that I use and now have a proper endorsement deal with FEA Labs Effects. It is nice to get some recognition for the hard work, and also is great to be able to endorse a product with no reservations - they make the best compressors I've ever used.

FEA Labs - Professional Bass & Guitar Effects - Featured Artists

(excuse the cheesy bio prose)

Now if I can just talk Jason at Fodera into a deal

I've always been a fan of your music. I have a disc you sent me...I treasure it.

Please put me on your list for gigs....I'd like to see you live when I can get a date. I assume blow up dolls also have to pay the cover charge?

Way to go Todd!! It's great to get some professional recognition and a bit of support.
The music world is a tough nut to crack. So good on you!

My buddy Allan Thomas that we have talked about before, another big Steely Dan Fan also just released his new CD " Deep Water " You can check it out on CD Baby et all. and here's a direct link to listen to CD: http://allanthomas.bandcamp.com/album/deep-water

He has Graham Nash, and David Crosby singing back up vocals on the song the longest ride, a song about Andy Irons.

Again Todd, Congrats.

Cheers Richard

Thanks guys, been a long haul and it never ends - sitting here cutting a live demo track for SxSW submission. But you're dead a long time so no time like the present.

I have a funny story about a photo shoot with a blow up doll and Annie Ample. Ahh, the lost years.

Shoot me an email and I'll add you to the mailing list. I don't always do the email blast but the website is always current. Next weekend we do 4 shows in 3 nights. No rest for the wicked...

Congrats. You are not only nurturing your creative soul but providing a living example to your son about pursuing his dreams. Very cool.

I am impressed and a bit envious. Playing and composing is my biggest thrill in life but I have no time to pursue it and I am sad to recognize I have lost most of my skills during the last twenty odd years (which is painfully obvious on the dr fluffer clips.. ).

Would you characterize yourself as too legit to quit, after accomplishing this?

J/K, congrats Todd

Well done! I'll second the kudos for setting a great example for your son. Nice write up too. I enjoyed the show last year and look forward to catching up with you down in MdR sometime.

Keep up the good work!

All I can say is that it is never too late to get back in the game. I've gigged more in the past year than at any previous point in my life, including when I was "trying to make it" and had no responsibilities.

As for the boy, he gives me plenty of grief about my playing. The usual line when hearing one of our recordings is, "this band is great...except the bass player sucks." Yesterday when I pointed him to the link his eyes kinda got big.

Now if I could just get him to practice instead of play computer games...

Very nice - creating art, doing what you love, very few people seem to ever accomplish that in their life. Much respect.

I am as well.

I married a musician/engineer and both my kids are very good (although only my son still plays...he can sight read like you, well, read about).

This will sound stupid, but when the kids were little during the holidays my wife would play Charlie Browns Christmas tunes on the piano and the kids would run around in circles, laughing with a joy that seems unique to five and six year old children.

More! More!

To take a silent, inanimate object and turn it into music is the coolest damn thing.
