My word for the day: MARZIPAN

So, yesterday, I get home from work and get ready for my weekly tennis night. And a word pops into my head: marzipan. (a confection of crushed almonds, almond paste, sugar, and egg whites that is often shaped into various forms.)

I'm not a big fan of the pastry, but I do find the word to be one that rolls off the tongue rather elegantly.

So anyway, not 10 minutes later, I'm eating dinner with Mrs. Z-man. We were flipping through a catalog we received in the mail that day - a catalog of gift pastries and such. Sure enough, about half-way through the catalog is a fine selection of .... wait for it ... marzipan gift boxes.

Now while I do often think about funny or unique words (the words homogenized and symbiote comes to mind), but I can't remember the last time I thought of, or ate marzipan. Weird.

Another coincidence that happened in the last 24 hours: I was reading the latest Road and Track, and read a little blurb on how Steve McQueen's 911, the one that was filmed in the beginning of Le Mans was sold at auction recently for over $1,200,000.00. This morning, I was listening to WPLJ (local pop station), and they were doing their weekly "Dead star in an envelope" game (based on clues, callers try to guess who a deceased star is.) Sure enough, the "dead star" this morning was Steve McQueen.

Now if I happen to come across a picture of McQueen eating some marzipan, I'm gonna get a little freaked out...

-Z-man.

I have a sweet tooth and like chocolates, but I'm not a huge fan of marzipan.

Marzipan is like Caviar in that there are varying levels of quality. A good Marzipan is a special treat!

Must be big in Istanbul as well. I never heard of Marzipan until Evren spoke of his favorite Marzipan shop, he taking the children there..

Gotta admit, I'd prefer a hand dipped truffle...one of the things I really miss since being diagnosed type 2 diabetic.

Mmmmm, truffles!

My absolute fav are/were Joseph Schmidt, right up until Hershey bought them and closed them down. Hershey should burn in hell.

It's akin to Nissan buying Ferrari, Rolls or Lamborghini and shutting them down.

A nice word indeed.

This is battenburg cake, probably my drug of choice. The outside is, yes, marzipan.

seems to me a diabetic Zoltan should go easy on the marzipan.

As long as it is only an occasional event, truffles, banana splits, whatever, are okay for diabetics. For crying out loud, you are grown men.

Well sort of anyway.

Marzipan? I thought she was Home Star Runner's girl.

Oh Yeah Yeah!!

It's just a goofy website/timewaster. However, it does feature "Trogdor, the Burninator"
