If you're talking possessions and discounting home/furnishings and cars, there ain't much. A girlfriend gave me a Rolex Sub no-date a few years back, and after that you're down to my iPad 64GB 3G, and from there it's my $300 Asus laptop.

Sentimental: I've got a rather 50s green and brown vase that was kept in my room as a kid and it's followed me everywhere. It is literally the only thing I took when I left home. I had to steal it because I'm damned if they wouldn't give it to me when I asked, despite no one caring about it but me (and had to explain what I was talking about). No one's ever noticed it missing from the family house or that it's in mine. But if I were to ever mention taking it, there'd be a $hitstorm.

Values sure drop off after real estate, vehicles, and retirement accounts. Probably either my LeRoy Neiman Serigraph or my dads Hamilton "Tuxedo" watch.

epbrown. I want to see a picture of that vase!

Health, family, attitude, career, friends. I have these and they don't count.

What do I value? Most stuff I own isn't worth much. A crack-head might steal it but I dont' think there is anything of value to speak of.

What would I carry out of the house when it burns? My pre-war Epiphone archtop. I have had it since Sophomore year of HS. Not worth much but it is pretty important to me.

Like most others, not much after the house and cars. I do enjoy life, my wife, family and friends.

When I read the thread title and author, I was immediately curious as to what Motions' answer is to his own question.

The knowledge that we create our own realities. We can believe the world is against us or alternatively believe that we can control our lives and the ultimate outcomes. In the same way we can believe that everyone in inherently evil or that everyone has at least some intrinsic good. It's all the way we look at life and each other.

Lots of stuff. Health, family, friends. I have my dad's medals and Navy uniform, and the flag that covered his casket. I have his rosary, and that is probably my most valuable possession. Old photographs. Senior prom pictures. Kids' art projects from when they were little.

Memories. My most valuable possessions are my memories. They're safe. Nobody can steal them.

Same here, although I don't "own" these things. What do we really "own" after all???

OK. The most valuable thing I own is an authenticated, autographed collection of every post by tabs in PARF. Has to be worth a couple million Z$.

I understood the question to mean objects only. I thought that was pretty clear. We all know that your wife/health/children/etc. are more valuable than objects.

I have a few things with enormous sentimental value. My most cherished possession is a small carved statue that my grandfather gave me in 1964, the year he died. I still have it on a bookshelf not two feet from my head while I'm sleeping. If there was a fire, I'd definitely grab it.

Other than that, a ton of African art from various countries my brother has lived in and a limited edition commemorative gun that was my uncle's.

My most valuable thing I own are my tools.

They allow me to improve my house, keep my cars running, provide a source of enjoyment through a hobby, and are extremely practical. Tools are one of the only "things" in my life that I intend to carry with me from place to place as I move around.

I also feel like my wedding ring is valuable, but that is an emotional attachment to my wife which is quite different in my mind.
