"Tried Tempur-pedic memory foam--comfortable but hot and grossly overpriced. Great marketing at its finest indeed."

Mattress shopping sucks. My wife and I went through it about a year ago. We went to all of the usual retailers in this area (Sleepy's, 1-800-mattress, etc) and it was a miserable experience. We always had the feeling that they were trying screw us. It was worse than shopping for a new car.
The last of these stores that we went into was Sleepy's. By this time, I was fed up with the entire experience and about 15 minutes into the process I had decided that I would never buy from these crooks but wanted to see how far they would bend. Long story short, I attempted to walk out of the store at least ten times and the price dropped every time. The store manager actually followed me out to my car and offered to lower the price some more to make a deal. I realize that they need to make a profit to keep the store open but I am sure that they make outrageous profits often enough. It was just a sleazy, uncomfortable experience. We wound up purchasing our mattress from Macy's. The staff at the store was extremely helpful and were not pushy. The salesperson who was helping us actually told us to pick out what we wanted then come back two days later because it would be going on sale. It was a good experience. They are actually having a sale now, Mattress at Macy's - Mattresses, Beds - Macy's |

These are the beds we bought about 5 years ago and we've been very happy with them...

Select Comfort for 10 years. No problems and we both like it.

I have 4 king size select comfort beds (with the pillowtop)..two in each of my two houses (bought all between 2005-2009) and am getting ready to buy two more for guest beds. After buying one for my wife and I, the diufference was so great that I was ashamed to let my daughter sleep on her old bed. Then, we needed them in the second home because they made the standard beds seem so uncomfortable. Whenever I have company, they say it is the best bed they have ever slept on. Like a 911, you just have to take the time to adjust it properly. One thing I really like (since we move a lot). is the modular construction of the bed and frame which allows me to take it apart and move it myself (pieces are very light compared to a typical bed).

We went bed shopping today, and ended up with a Tempurpedic "Cloud"
We really liked the Select Comfort/Sleep Number, but there's been too many problems with the newer ones. I even got the sales guy to admit there's been some "issues." |
