What car would u most like to have...
back because you sold it? Mine was a 1958 VW Beetle which took me across Canada and back(6800 miles in two weeks) in January of 1966. Froze my petunias off but was utterly reliable and fun to drive. You regretted selling your ..... for what reason?

Cool thread. I'll play...
I had a Fiat 131. It had rear wheel drive (live axle), and a dohc 8valve 4 banger. It wasn't very pretty (puke yellow, if I recall), but it had personality and was quirky. Fun to drive and pretty rare. Pretty easy to work on as well (like when the power steering pump went, I cut that belt off with a kitchen steak knife and drive it for years w/out the pump, which I thought was better!). I regret never owning a Bug! Interested to see other responses. Al |
1988 BMW L6 with a manual trans. They claim to have never built that L with the stick but I had one. That car was a beauty and great to drive and, and, and..................

Don't worry, I almost got caught in the same trap. I didn't have it long, but I did have a '69 Buick Riviera that was in good shape that I'd take now. The cars that I had that I loved the most were my first which was a '65 Chevy Impala 2dr 4spd, and my old '88 911 targa. The only reason I didn't say those two is that both were getting a bit long in the tooth. If I could have either back but in really good shape, then it would be either one of those in a heartbeat. The 65 was tons of fun with the 4spd, V-8 and 4.10 gears. And that was with a fairly weak V-8 that a PO had gotten from a junk yard. It had a 2bbl carb and was probably a 72-74 low performance model, but that car was still surprisingly quick. I LOVED the 911, but I'd want one in good shape that didn't need any work, and at 160k miles, that one was going to start needing all sorts of work. |
65 Mercedes 190c. 4 speed on the column. that car was so much fun

I had a 1979 Corolla with a 5speed and RWD. It was my first car. I would like to have it back for an afternoon.
I had a 1973 Mustang that I bought when I was 17 and was going to "restore". With no money and no proper place to do it and no tools. I never really got to drive that car. I sold it for $700 (what I paid before buying random parts). The guy restored it, but I never got to see it done, I was in college. I had a Cherokee that I really liked. It was nothing special, but I liked it since it was high up, I could roll the windows down and the wind noise wasn't too bad and it was just "noisy". Once I discovered nicer cars, I realize how bad it handled. My son's car seat didn't fit well so we sold it. I really did like that thing though. |
This one I sold four years ago, kept it a year, it had 110k miles on it when I sold it, all numbers matching 365 hp 327, 1964. and then there is the 89 Targa I sold a couple years ago but don't want to talk about it.

'54 MG-TF 1250 from 1962 to 1972.

'65 Pontiac GTO...

Tom please tell me a bit about your MG TF. Being an ex-Brit., this kind of car fascinated me. I had a TR3, MGB and old Mini. Who tuned the carb(s),was it reliable and was it fun to drive?I was always impressed by owners who could keep the cars going. I did not have too much patience 1) if parts were hard to get or 2) unreliable.

69 Mustang fastback. Bought it from the original owner, restored it and then sold it to buy a house.

I had just turned 24 when I purchased my first real nice 'almost new' car, a 1969 fuel-injected TR-6. I still miss that car to this day.

My 69 AMC Javelin when I was in HS.
In reality it was a POS and worthless back in the 80's. |

1974 Mk1 Ford Escort. It was only 1300cc but only wieghed about 8 or 9 hundred Kilos so went like a little rocket. Especially for those days LOL.
I used to go surfing at one or two remote breaks and used to drive it rally car style there and back on the gravel roads. Ha, I came to grief a few times but that didn't slow me down. |

A toss-up between the 1969 Corvette and the 1967 Camaro Convertable.
Prolly go with the 'Vette because of the 4-speed manual tranny. Camaro had a slushbox. |
Damn, I have to sit and think about this one.
Might be the '65 Corvette black coupe or the '57 white one. They'd both be worth a pile of money. So would the '61 VW Single cab transporter. But to keep and drive around occasionally, probably my '36 MG SA Saloon. But, I'd probably sell each and every one again, so no real regrets. About the only car I've lusted for that I never had is a V12 Ferrari with Borani's. Looks like that part of the bucket list will go unfulfilled. |
2600 Alfa Spider.

the OP suggests just one car, so, like Paul/Seahawk...
71 BMW 2002, sunroof, beige with tan interior, tho I really like the green 2002s better. I had a Bay Window Bus (see Byron's post above) but my Vanagon Westy is better than that and a Splittie is too primitive and too expensive. I had a Pontiac GTO Rocket Sled (see Paul's post above) but mine did not have Tri-Power tho the soft bumper on it was interesting. I did like the turquoise blue paint job and the ability to drain the fuel so fast that you could see the gas needle move while on a single joy ride. The suspension was really primitive and my current 911 is faster, so the Goat is out. various Japanese cars... nah - the RX-7 turbo did have a nice surge to it, but I am not a fan of turbo lag. My 911 is a lot "closer to the road" in terms of feel. The Boxster S - now there is a contender. But, I will soon replace that roadster with the new VW/Audi/Porsche roadster, which (i hope) will be smaller, less expensive, and have a newer vintage chassis. The Toybota 4-flusher had better off-road ability than my current Sube Forester, but was a lot rougher and less capable on the highway. Having duly considered all the evidence... BMW 2002. |

I'm looking for two cars: A 2002 round eye and a Targa, pre 74. Makes me happy. I also had a 68 Bus among other tin. It was nice to look for and own cars in the 70's/80's. |
My first car, a 1966 Corvair. My dad had purchased it for himself to fix up but never got around to it.
When I got my first job, he gave it to me so I could get to work. It wasn't pretty but it ran well until I smoked the automatic transmission doing burnouts. Yeah, I was pretty darn reckless. :( He ended up selling it to a neighbor and I saw it in a junkyard a few years later. It had been broadsided by something rather large. I would restore it and enjoy driving it on nice days. |
Both of my 1969 Camaro Z-28's. They were both mint, IMO, but so harsh and loud and just nuts and bolts. But boy did they go like hell. My 1070 Buick Gran Sport 455 Stage 1, with A/C, convertible, also mint shape, was smooth and quiet at times, but it was the gentlemen's muscle car.

My old 89 930 5 speed.

But right now this is the only new car that stirs any sort of passion in me. I driven an Aston and Jag but I keep coming back to this car... Meanwhile my daily serves me very well and my SC is still a blast to drive. I don't envy anyone when I'm in either car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321849986.jpg |
I'd would love to have my '65 bug back. I came out one Sunday morning to find it had been stolen. It was really my all time favorite car. I completely replaced the interior, had it painted, put some nice wheels & Michelins on it. Had a balanced 1776 to go into it (car got stolen before I put that in). I don't know why it's my favorite. Maybe it was getting into it on a sunny morning, cranking the sunroof open and just feeling good. I've had Austin Healeys, an MGA, & a TR3 (second favorite) as well as other cars, but that little VW is the one I'd really like to have back.
|
I've had 3 performance cars in my life. My C6 chevette, my '67 fastback mustang ( founfd the issue of Grassroots motorsports that it was in back in '05 today)
But the car that I miss more than the mustang? In '84~87 I had a 1966 Fairlane GT with a 390 bigblock and a ford toploader 4 spd. The day my Dad and I brought it home my Mom looked at the car and said that it looked like it had seen a few street drag races in it's day. I lost it to a drunk off duty cop @ 7 in the MORNING! |
1983 Volvo 850...donated to Kidney Foundation. A good cause but I miss it.
