F#€! ethanol !!

I'm sick of this crap. Every single gas operated vehicle, watercraft, piece of lawn and garden equipment that I own has been effed-up, because of it.

Sorry, end of rant.....

I just talked to a friend with a very powerful turbo Porsche he is rebuilding, he said he was at a point where he was probably going to set it up to run ethanol in it, he said it uses more but is cheaper, the 116 stuff he was using is too expensive. Even at that he said he would have to go to San Diego to get the stuff.
Anyway, I thought that's what he said. Should I call and clarify it?

flatbutt 11-20-2011 03:22 PM

Ducati has a class action lawsuit against it due to plastic gas tanks warping and seals failing because of the ethanol.

slakjaw 11-20-2011 03:50 PM

When I put non ethanol fuel in my truck I get a bit over 300 miles to a tank. 10% ethanol I get 200. That's messed up!

VINMAN 11-20-2011 04:08 PM

Ive had to rebuild/replace, every carb/fuel system component, on everything I own this year.

And you get to pay more for food as a result. All to apease the Agriculture lobby in Washington. They have bigger lawyers than we do!

But never fear...if we have bad weather and the corn crop is off a bit, we'll write some tax-payer funded subsidy checks that would curl your hair. Ok, I'll shut up now before this gets banished to PARF.

Pisses me off nonetheless.

Just today I was working the leaf blower clearing the gutters before winter sets in. Ran some left over VP U4 It smelled so very good! Purged it with some sunoco purple when I was done.
(The rocket fuels don't store well.)

I've gotten to the point that I've put shut-off valves on everything but the cars. After I use them, shut the fuel off, and let them run until they die. I haven't had to rebuild a carb in a while now. I had to tear apart the carb on the push mower four times last year because of 10% ethanol..

I'm glad there was an exemption made to the gasahol law here. I recently found a source for NO ALCOHOL unleaded 92 octane premium. It's 13.1 miles from my garage. Worth the trip to me! :)

My yard equipment & generator all get 100LL Avgas.

No alcohol, stays stable for a very long time.

you should not operate motorized equipment while drunk

My cafe racer has sat for a month or two..... One carb is now effed up. My little ATC ice racer won't run and my riding mower needs the carb tore down before I store it for the winter. Next weekend I am making a fuel run to the airport and will waste the weekend fixing carbs, draining fuel and starting all my summer stuff on a bit of AVgas. Yeah I am sick of this ridiculous govt mandated ethanol BS.

Good tip...My mower came with a shut-off, I use it after every mowing. Chain saw I just syphon out the excess gas & run dry after use. Probably not necessary now that I have a source for the good stuff with no alcohol, but I still do it.

Paul, why is there an exemption in your neck of the woods?

Boating lobby and farm lobby for the most part. The Governor who pushed the gasahol law was pressured by the rural legislators, so he then signed an "alteration", allowing 92 0ctane unleaded with no alcohol. to be sold. I buy mine at a local WILCO station...owned by a farm co-op. I'm probably oversimplifying, but the result is that I can buy gas without alcohol...just pull the Mustang right up to the pump...:D

Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

"We currently have 4481 stations entered for the following states and provinces" (that sell real gas)

I guess I'm spoiled, there's one less than a mile from me, and at least two others in my town.

Sorry, I don't see any listed in NJ.

It doesn't appear to have as much effect on EFI systems?

Ethanol/Gasoline dissolved the fuel pump and carb seals on my old DB4. It did it within 100 miles of filling up with it in about 2000 when I filled up with ARCO. Perhaps you are the one who has been drinking too much EtOh while posting. SmileWavy

Edit: didn't I just read a post from you about your VW and fuel systems that degrade with EtOH? Not that I care to bother to look it up.

Edit Again: here it is. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/640972-rubber-fuel-hose.html

RWebb 11-20-2011 06:42 PM

No - not sure why, but the EFI on the later cars has fewer problems than CIS systems.

My carbs run fine on it (so far).

BTW - you can buy race gas here w/o Et-OH in it -- I occasionally buy it (unleaded) - but costs $10/gal.

RWebb 11-20-2011 06:43 PM

it's a joke Hughbert - Geez
