Everybody here knows Mustangs can't corner, right?

Video taken from a Mustang at VIR...emailed to me by a PCA friend who was there.

My friend's comments:
it is a video with my friend Warren Ibaugh in his hot rod Cayman ... camera is in a relatively stock mustang. not one of the Bullitts that were there .. think there were 3 of them... blistering fast.. this mustang spends as much time coasting as he does on the throttle to keep from running up Warrens ass

I started behind the mustang... never saw either of them again after the 3'rd or 4th turn... and would have caught me if this would have gone on much longer...

this is what goes for "pace laps" in the south... a bit different than in the NW-- frickin pace car was one of those GrandAm cars that all look alike to me but have different engines and paint jobs. he just took off and left folks to do what they wanted..

The video:
Production 1 - YouTube

I originally posted this on the 650 Horsepower GT500 thread, but thought it might be fun to give it it's own... Watch at your own risk...it could be disturbing to Porsche owners.

That's one of the previous gen Mach 1s, right? So it has independent rear suspension.

There were cars in front of the Cayman. Looks like passing was not allowed. So where was the Cayman going to go?

Cayman did not look hot-rodded to me.

The pace did not seem that fast to me.

That is without comparing the unknown skill levels of the drivers.

To me the video just looked like a pace lap although they did get pretty fast on the straight. I don't think the Cayman was on it.

edit: I watched a little more towards the end and they were going faster. But still, it sounds like it was not a competetive event so it is not really a fair comparison to make because the drivers may have not had the same ideas about how hard to push it.

Not saying that a Mustang can't be made to go fast around a track in certain situations like smooth tracks, but I just think that video was not really evidence of anything.

I DO hope your talking about the Porsche, because my 997 rattles like hell. I'm always chasing downs some little plastic squeak or rattle.

The Shelby Mustang seems like a Monster, but does the thing have any sort of traction control or stability management? It would be a scary as a daily driver if it didn't.

Sometimes a Mustang has to ride on top to corner as well as a Porsche.

My Bullitt has traction control, plus a limited slip rear end...I'm assuming here, but it's a safe bet the Shelby has traction control & limited slip. Traction control can be turned off with a switch on the dash.

Mustangs use to race in something called Trans Am, where they did have to turn not only left, but right..

I posted this in another of the Mustang threads.

I like the '69 better though.

Here is a European review of a mustang on the track. The driver does loss control and blames it on weight distribution. She does pass a 993, 911 and Ferrari. Of course, who knows if they were trying.
