WOW! Does the cart/sled thing automatically lean into the curves or is the rider expected to keep it upright?

Looks to me like the track banks on the corners. The driver can control the brakes, however, that particular driver opted not to.

I haven't been able to find more info on it...

Being from flat Florida, I've never seen one of these in person. What does the car/cart look like and how is it attached to the rail?

You can see these things all over the Alps. It's one of the ways ski resorts attract tourists during the off season.

The rail mechanism varies from place to place—but the single rail would appear to be the simplest to build.

I've been on a few of these, and they're a riot.

I did the one in my moms homed town in Germany when I was younger. It wasn't the monorail type, but the older concrete bobsled style. I tried to go down without using the brake. That didn't end so well. I made it about 2/3's the way down before entering a corner and was flipped onto the track. The sled landed on top of me. Good thing the person behind me was not on my tail.

The one in the videos look like a lot of fun!

Does anyone offer these things here in the US?

Would love to ride one, but being stupidly flat Florida prevents that.

i can see US lawsuits on that before it even opens. no overhead protection, no arm protection, only 2 pt seat belts, completely open cockpit. someone's gonna dangle their leg over edge and get it whacked off.

Hah, I'm from FL, grew up both in the Tampa are and Pensacola in the pan handle. FL isn't as flat as Houston. This place is horrible for flat.

That said, yeah, I agree with the other poster, there is no way in a million years (other than in a post apocalyptic US) that one of those could exist in the US.

Right, "I was imagining riding it and the lack of safety scared me until I soiled myself. Now I need $1m for the embarrassment of soiling myself."

4 minutes. It has to be at least 3 miles long. I don't think he was doing 60 MPH.

There is something similar in the states..."alpine slide" Its a fiberglass track...

Presidents Alpine Slide, Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore newest family attraction

I was on the one at Pico a few years back and had a bit of a yard sale... lost some skin sliding on the fiberglass track... No lawyers were involved..

I went on one in Slovenia a few weeks ago, 1.4km long, took four goes before I had the guts to not use the brakes at all

There was one a bit closer to where I live we use to use but that was closed down after someone was killed on it

I love a good Sommerrodelbahn!!! Rode this one in Austria a few years ago near Salzburg. I've ridden many across Europe as well as a few in Colorado. They are a blast!!!

I think there was one in Big Bear, the concrete type like in TinT's link, I rode on a looong time ago. I was chicken and did not let it go too crazy because it felt like I was go over the edge at speed. It did not look too fast, but once you are on the thing, I was near the very edge on the banked turns. Scare the heck out of me because you can''t see how long the drop is if you fly over. That can hurt.
