Airbus feeling crabby after a long flight
We had a crazy day of wind up here yesterday:

Oh man...What now?
|
Saw something on the web a few months ago like this. Th plane was 50 yards or so off to one side of the runway due to wind. Pilot slid it in side ways like a stunt plane on a short field landing. Makes parts of me pucker up!

Is that what they call the side-step maneuver?

Would suck to be sitting in a window seat and be able to see down the runway as you are coming in....

no, side step is shooting an ILS (or other approach) to runway, then choosing landing on the parallel runway. that's a good old "crab and kick" landing

Thats the day when we really earn our money. The others are just plain fun! Add some snow or ice on the runway and thats when it gets really interesting!

He made it look pretty easy. The scary ones are when they dip a wing just before touchdown.

Sad fact at my airline: Since the majority of the pilots came from the military where they flew single-seat fighters, the policy is to transition from crab to slip at 200 feet on final.
Why? So that the captain knows that you know how to do a proper cross-wind landing..... N- |
