new little Spoon

Went shooting the day after thanksgiving with the family....broke out the new S&W .50 cal...forevermore known as "BIG POPPA". This thing is a beast but very accurate. Shot a pumpkin at about 60 yards and turned it to pie.
I could only stand about 12 rounds...my brother-in-law only three.

We had .22's, .380's. 9mm's, .40cal, .44 magnum /Mare's Leg, .45, .50 cal, Mossberge Home Defense 12 guage. What a hoot!!!

You know it would be a lot cooler if you were shooting that with one hand.

Quite a pic! Hey, let's see dirty Harry conceal one of those...

My right hand is still a little tender...that thing kicks!! It made the .357 Mag feel like a .22.

My little sister is a fantastic photographer but this is the only shot she timed perfectly...look at the hammer in the pic..it is blurred from movement.

I have a 4" version that I call "The Samaritan". It does bear a passing resemblance.

Recoil is...noteworthy.

He..he..he....shooting it does make you feel like a bad a$$ superhero.....

I was sitting by my wife when I shot the first round...wish I had a pic of her face. She didn't know I was about to shoot because she was focused on shooting the .22 rifle and had on hearing protection. ...when Big Poppa went off, all the targets on the table flew off and her hair blew back...she looked at me like I had slapped her.

That 1st pic is great. Even with video captures I've never been able to get the timing that good.

You hand hurts..LOL Now you know why that thang ain't so popular...My guess is that U ain't gona be shootin "Big Poppa" much at tall...

Either U will be satisifed with it being a safe Queen and be able to brag about it or you will get rid of it...and buy something more accomodating to shoot.

wow that is a loud photo-

I have a 44special snub nose that is painful to shoot and because of that it doesn't get shot much.
don't know if tech would help or if this thing is just going to snap my wrist every time i shoot it.

You take it to the gym and keep it in your hand at all times. That way, when the spandex queens see "Big Poppa", they'll be VERY impressed and won't shoot him while he's lifting weights. It actually works! No one has ever been shot while in the gym totin' Big Poppa...trust me on that one

The owner at the local gun shop (been in business since the '20's and passed down father-to-son through three generations so far) tells me that every few years a hot magnum caliber comes out, and about two years after that he ends up buying a bunch of them for 50% of new price and selling them at auction.

First it was the .44 Mag in the late 70's, then the 10mm in the 80's, then Desert Eagles in the 90's. Now he's got about a dozen of those .500 S&W revolvers on trade.

Me? I don't really enjoy shooting .357 magnum. I've got my 9mm and my .38 Special. I shoot several thousand rounds a year and would rather shoot something underpowered and be extremely proficient at it. I figure that in the gap between large handguns and small rifles, I'd rather have a small rifle....

please watch you tube and punch in smith .500 and start LYAO at all the faceplants and blood.

and that folks is directly from the folks at CORBON and GARRETT CARTRIDGES!

if i were YOU i would keep a damn good eye on that frame and cylinder for any fatigue. why? ask me how i know? they pulled the smith .500's off the firing line and back to the factory at the lokal gun club due to fatigue.

Yup on the carry...S@W .380 Bodyguard and my good ol FEG 9mm for daily carry. Either or both are on/very near me at all times away from the house.

Nuthin' wrong with that either. I have no problem with a .357 for extended periods, but I put the .44 mag away after just a few rounds too (unless I'm using .44 specials). I'd assume the .50 is a similar "step up" from the .44 mag? The plus side of my revolver "canons" is that they make my "go to" .45 auto seem like a .22 and perfectly tame. It's all relative...and good

I also carry an FEG 9x18 Mak. With the lightweight aluminum frame, I have had a slightly sore hand the next day after shooting 50+ rounds through it. I do not notice it while shooting however.

My wife's little TCP .380 is the nastiest weapon we own from a comfort perspective.... Feels like a bomb going off in ones hand as it is very light weight. My wife's favorite handgun is our Ruger .44 magnum revolver. I don't see what the fuss is about with them as it does not kick all that hard IMO.
