Tried to up load a dummy pic of my Rudge and it gets stuck on shipping and handling. I put in $1000 and it won't take it and won't let me advance to next step.

The blue font and grey headers are too light. Like the colors are all washed out.

I also can't get past the "Shipping & Handling" field when creating a new for sale ad. I enter a value and it tells me I haven't when I click the "next" button.

Haven't tried uploading a photo, yet.

when you get a search result and to the ad, will you have a "post to facebook" link?

Hugh, I think you have to enter just a number, without the $ sign

My business is motorsports websites (well one of them anyway)...

So some thoughts: (And I'm gonna be brutally honest because being all touchy-feely won't help)

1. Lacks pizzazz. Front page is rather dull. Functional, but dull. Light blue font on white background not advised.

2. Style looks too much like spam. I first saw the page, I thought it looked like the website is a domain camper (ie sites that only link to other places hoping for click and search revenue). This might work for craigslist, but I suggest a little something more.

3. Lacks a grabber on the front page. Most consumers leave after 3 seconds if they don't see what they want.

4. You need a geographic (proximity) search.

5. In the course of doing a few quick security checks for you, I attempted to find your administrative page. In the process, I noticed that your 404 page redirects to a domain camping page where your hosting provider is probably making money off of you. Since it's a domain camping page, it kills ANY credibility you had with the consumer.

Try it, go to: http://www.motolist.com/xyz and watch the spam come up from your hosting provider.

Just a few quick thoughts. Ping me if you want to talk about it.

OK, guess colors are too light for some monitors. Will dial in more contrasting colors maņana.

Looks like the price fields are causing problems. Highlighting the entire default contents and replacing with a whole number, 1000 for example, should work fine.

Yes, sure will.

Tried to up load a dummy ad of my Rudge in Race, Other and it hangs on the the shipping and handling and won't let me proceed.

Hugh R 11-30-2011 04:50 PM

OK, I just did a dollar amount without the $ and it loaded.

motion 11-30-2011 04:52 PM

Yep, the default $ sign is throwing people. Will remove that and make the field empty as default.

Hugh R 11-30-2011 04:52 PM

Whose other Rudge?

motion 11-30-2011 04:55 PM

Mine :D

Noah930 11-30-2011 04:56 PM

I agree with cstreit: the home page needs some visual grab. This is a bike site. Go with pics of bikes. (Or at least pics of umbrella/Fast Dates calendar girls next to bikes. ;)) Maybe once the site is up and running, you could have a portion of the home page offer a slideshow of bikes currently listed for sale.

1-3 noted. We're going for the simple Craigslist look. We'll add a simple intro paragraph above the listings to add some credibility.

4. Agreed

5. We're on a temp, shared account server for now. Will launch on a dedicated server and the 404 pages will be modified appropriately. Thanks for thinking of that aspect.

You should have a dedicated category: Custom Harley based monstrosities that some dumbass paid $50,000 for at the peak of the market.

Noah930 11-30-2011 05:01 PM

I tried adding a pic, but the file's too large. What's the limit on file size? Or do I just keep making it smaller with trial-and-error attempts?

Those parameters should be made clear on the upload page (max px and file size).

CL works because it is CL and goes to the utter extreme of minimalist. With the shading bars you cross the line into some aesthetic, so I agree that you should have a bit more visual grab going on. It doesn't have to be much, but something that differentiates it from other sites, especially ones that use a lot of preformed widgets/look/feel.

If there's demand, we'll add that category. But I have a feeling those things stay hidden away in basements out of shame.
