Did you watch the video?
Most American products bet the cheap Chinese stuff hands down, unless price is your only measure.

I just had an experience buying a suit. Found one made in the USA after a fair amount of looking.
The problem for me isn't that stuff is Made in China, it's the magnitude of it. At one "higher-end" department store, I probably looked at 35-40 suits. Exactly ONE that I found was made in Slovakia, every other one was Made in China. If it was 30% China, 20% Turkey, 10% Mexico, 10% Argentina, 5-10% of a bunch of other places, or something similar, I wouldn't have such a hard time with it. I might even pick the product from China at that point. But when it's 90%+ of items that aren't even less expensive, it's pretty irritating.

There are a few on this board who are leaning this way. Made in America.
As Wilford Brimley would say - "It's the right thing to do!" "If it was 30% China, 20% Turkey, 10% Mexico, 10% Argentina, 5-10% of a bunch of other places, or something similar, I wouldn't have such a hard time with it. I might even pick the product from China at that point. But when it's 90%+ of items that aren't even less expensive, it's pretty irritating." My thoughts exactly. There is no balance. It's as if China is part of the One World Machine. They will soon have all the gold. Remember the Golden Rule - He who has the GOLD makes the Rules. Believe it. You get cheap crap from China because most people are only looking at price, and China is willing to make cheap crap, but you can get good quality from China if you pay for it, and raise the specs. I see threads on this forum where if someone asks is a Porsche is a good first car, tons of people pile in and say they need something reliable like a Honda. There was a day when buying a car made in Japan wasn't considered such a good idea...

Price should not be a factor. The overall cost of anything is far greater than the amount you spend on the initial purchase. Consider performance criteria first and last and let price fall where it may. You will never be disappointed.

This topic could get heated. At my age, I think of myself as very neutral on this but do my best to buy American made. The problem is, its very difficult. Sorry but globalization is here and if you try to turn back, not many companies would or will survive. I also know if the asian sourced products want to be the best, they easily can. Thats not saying they all are, but like everyting else its price driven and they have the extra ingrediant of cheap labor. We simply don't have it here in the US.
I personally know Dave MacNeil and long before he started the company WeatherTech, known for automotive floor mats. I haven't talked with him in some years but recently thought he deserved a complimentary email of his advertisements of what it means to be a 100% made in America product. This includes the tooling to produce the goods, etc. That takes true pride in a belief at a cost, and Dave now has a first class company. Support these companies by buying from them. Let me add, I worked for other companies that made US goods and some foreign. What opened my eyes was the quality of components or even the product as a whole was good but the big issue was handling during the product cycle to transportation and distribution. The more hands in the proccess, the higher probability of issues and failure. Some products, dare I say... Motorola the US made phones in the mid 1990's had some models with an absurd 80% failure rate before the product was boxed! No BS and I witnessed it first hand. The mentality of supervisors all the way to the top was absurd. The problem and widely ignored by staff was the improper handling of the delicate components during production. Nobody cared, sup's were afraid to point fingers and tackle the problem... just keep pushing volume and compete with Nokia (remember them?). Then when I worked for a Canadian company which its main product is well thought out with extraordinary means to produce, it was first rate. However the moment the logistics of distribution came in, lots of product is often sold without one knowing if its damaged in the sealed packaging while at a retailer. Just plain wrong. I'm actually in the planning process of a new product and truly want it 100% American made. A possibilty of 100% American made would be used as a marketing tool. In time, the Chinese will catch on and clone my product. I could go to India and have it made for a fraction of the cost but for now, I want to be true USA made. One has to be cautious of machines that claim to be American made. It doesn't have to be 100%, there are many ways around that label.

What do you know about Stihl saws and leaf blowers? They have a factory in Virginia. I bought Stihl on the strength of the Virginia factory, but I wonder if it's just assembled or if it's MADE there.

Be careful with lists you find on the Internet. They have the integrity of FOX newscasters. I researched electric razors and was told the Panasonic ARC 4 was made in America. I went to a store to buy said item. I checked the box, which clearly stated the product was made in Japan. The moral of the story is check the box. And wait....there's more..... one razor's manufacturer went a step further in deceit. It said it was "Manufactured in PRC". If you were intent on avoiding Chinese products, LIKE WE ALL SHOULD BE!!!!, you might not know that PRC stands for People's Republic of China. No wonder people finally give up. But not me, not yet.

This topic can go on for ever.............
![]() Do you know that in Saipan Which is the largest island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), a chain of 15 tropical islands belonging to the Marianas archipelago in the western Pacific Ocean. Has many clothing factories all full of Chinese workers ,working 24/7 with very well-known brands, materials coming from everywhere but the USA. However, you guess it ,all of those clothes leave the factory with a MADE IN U.S.A. Tag. Don't think for a minute that everything made in U.S.A. is really made here. Is a very Sad reality.

"Do you know that in Saipan"
A friend was recently there. Sounds like a great place to visit if you like exploiting underage women. Sounds like a free for all for men. Not passing judgement. They have a right to their own culture. I don't agree with bullfighting, but I don't argue with Mexico's right to do so. But underage girls or boys.....that's another matter. Note to Mods - delete this post before you send this thread to PARF. |
