Netflix Streaming...good movies ?

I'm signed up only for the streaming since those greedy bastards changed their pricing policy, but I've seen some great movies lately that I/we never heard of. That may not mean much since we don't go to movies in-theatre much.

Just recently watched these and found them excellent...Perhaps you all can suggest ones you liked.

Return to Paradise........Anne Hesche .....yummy
The Tenth Man..........Anthony Hopkins
As Far as My Feet Can Carry Me.... German w/subtitles but great
Ronin ..................Robt. DeNiro

There's more but I just can't think of them now...mostly just listing stuff I didn't know of before...

What I find interesting/annoying about Netflix streaming service is it's only usefull if you are NOT looking for a specific flick.

Every time I want to watch something specific it's never available for streaming.

Yeah, I agree and that's part of the reason I'm asking for suggestions. I've not struck out every time trying to find one that's on streaming but you're right...frequently they're only on DVD. I think there's a ton of good flix on streaming but they likely are not really well known.

I wish you could delete your previously viewed movies. Some of them really don't need to appear in your recently watched queue when your 5 year old is looking for Dora or what not.

You can delete movies in your queue with the X to the right. For the price I get streaming and hard copies at around $16. That's cheap.

You can delete also from the page you chose to watch it. Just scroll down to Delete below the star rating. I always delete one just after I've watched it. When the flik is over, just hit the stop...not pause..on the remote. That takes you back to that movie on the queue.

Agree with Stomach Monkey. The algorithm that sorts to your preferences is good. I have seen some excellent films streaming.

I did however just cancel streaming and move to just the hard copy blu-ray / dvd. That was due to my children being horribly addicted to the streaming.

"Senna" is available,

I recently watched "About Schmidt" and
"Last of the Mohicans"

I agree with the poster who said the only way to find interesting stuff is by not looking for anything in particular. Plus, you really should to use the internet to search, at least initially; once you have your search started, Netflix shows you other stuff that might interest you...

And don't forget that there is a lot of TV stuff that you might have missed. If you haven't seen any of "Sons Of Anarchy" or "Justified" you can catch the first seasons of both of those, or, BBC stuff like "Bleak House" if you're into that. Or "Weeds" or Mad Men", "Parks and Recreation" "Breaking Bad" "30Rock" "The Trailer Park Boys" "Archer"

Good list there which I'll check out. I agree that the way NF gives you to search is poor and that's why I asked for suggestions in the first place. I do find other movies I wanna watch when I select one however. I've seen tons of TV as well. Watched all of Mad Men, some Rockford, Dragnet. Loved Mad Men..

Moon is streamed I believe. Was made in 2009 on a low budget and the special effects were done nicely using original Star Wars type models.

Great idea and plot and is not traditional Sci-Fi. No creatures.

I've seen both versions a True Grit and love that movie...especially the original.

I watched all 52 episodes of Mad Men a few months ago. Never saw so much smoking in my life....but loved the series.

Netflix streaming is pretty spotty in its coverage of "A" films. But there's tons of B-grade stuff to watch. I hadn't seen a single episode of Lost until last December and ran through four seasons -- until it got really stupid. Almost no movies I've searched for have been available. I think their budget is tiny, and if you look at 'recently added' movies, it's about 1-2 a month that are successful and/or highly rated.

I do find the 'recommended for you' list to be quite good.

I started a thread on 'Furrin flics'...some good suggestions in there. The one annoying thing on streaming is FFWD and Rewind if you miss something is a PITA.

It's the B movies I've found to be most interesting, actually. The A movies are usually limited to DVD. I'm not real fond of their 'rec list'...

Joe Bob, I followed and posted on that thread and that gave the idea to start this one

Timely!
This is something everyone else probably already knows but I just found out - if you "pause" first, you can go back or forth right to the scene you want. (yes, you still have to wait for the thing to rebuffer, but this is a lot more accurate.)

I watch netflix on a roku player and there's lots of good suggestions on the home page. lists movies similar to every movie you last watched. I find a lot of movies from the previews of movies I watch on dvd also. problem is.. I've seen so many movies I can't find many I want to see I haven't seen before. it's nothing for me to watch 3-4 movies a day if I can find something I haven't seen. I caught up on all the old Nikita, Torchwood, Sliders, Farscape, Firefly, Red Dwarf, tripping the Rift, etc series

Interesting, I just watched it a few days ago as well. Dark, yes, but well acted. Seemed more like a Masterpiece Theatre prod. than a 'real movie'. What ever....we liked it for it's good acting.
