Dad, I wan't to part of something bigger than myself..."

"Dad, I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. I want to serve my country."

So said my beautiful 17 year old daughter as she left the Academy's summer leadership program. Monday she received her Congressional nomination. Today we learned she'd gotten her appointment.

Yes, I am very proud. Hopefully that's not too big of a sin.

God bless her and God bless the United States of America.

Jared at Pelican Parts 12-07-2011 01:50 PM

West Point?

Congratulations

DaveE 12-07-2011 01:52 PM

David- I applaud your Daughter- most 17 year olds couldn't tell you the population of the United States but know when one of the Kardashians got their period.

Be proud- be very proud.

Shaun @ Tru6 12-07-2011 01:56 PM

This country needs more parents like you.

Dana Norris 12-07-2011 01:58 PM

BE PROUD, and congrats to her.

Moses 12-07-2011 02:03 PM

What an accomplishment! Well done! Both of you.

RWebb 12-07-2011 02:05 PM

Congrats, but which service academy?

Hard-Deck 12-07-2011 02:13 PM

Excellent! You and your wife have parented well.

scottmandue 12-07-2011 02:14 PM

Nice to hear there are still some good children who are not afraid of hard work.

On a related note my step daughter just got accepted to O of U...

She is an AP student, very involved in volunteer work.

Not as prestigious but we are very happy and proud.

M.D. Holloway 12-07-2011 02:15 PM

Very very cool! Well done.

steve911 12-07-2011 02:16 PM

David--
Absolutely NOT a sin to be proud of your child, particularly when she wants to serve her country.

My congratulations to you on your parenting skills and to your daughter for her vision.

WELL DONE!

daepp 12-07-2011 02:16 PM

Thanks everyone - but the honor is hers. She's going to Annapolis. She is my second child to go out of state for college. Proud of both of them too - my oldest is at Hillsdale. Personally, I'm on cloud 9! Just wish my WWII Navy father were here to see her!

widgeon13 12-07-2011 02:21 PM

Congrats, It's a great experience for her and you.

peppy 12-07-2011 02:23 PM

Congratulations all around.

Hard-Deck 12-07-2011 02:26 PM

Hillsdale! Another great school. I read Imprimis still.

Do you mind sharing why you passed on your appointment? Do you have any regrets?

thingmon 12-07-2011 07:42 PM

Congrats. My nephew and his wife both went to Annapolis not long ago. I'm sure they'd be willing to talk to her if she's interested. If so, PM me.

Hope she does well!

jhynesrockmtn 12-07-2011 08:05 PM

Congrats, that's very exciting. My son is at college on an Army ROTC scholarship and heading to airborne school this summer. I'm proud and you have every right to be very, very proud.

I would be grateful if one day, I had a daughter, and one day, she grew older, and one day, she turned out as great as yours has in the least bit.

Congratulations pal.
