Looking for small turbocharger

I want to turcharge a 2.2L Kubota diesel engine. Looking for 80-100HP. Garrett has an online application that points me to a GT1241 for 80 HP and the GT1544 or GT1548 for 100HP. I've only found those turbos new for around $625. The bargain hunter in me says I can do better. I've seen great deals on new genuine Garrett turbos, albeit for the larger models.

Are there other brands worth considering? Any sizing help is appreciated. Right now, I'm leery of the Chinese Garrett copies for cheap. I feel more comfortable paying $625 for a genuine Garrett than risk an engine for a $250 Chinese clone. Whatcha think?
Jurgen

You could go to a pick-a-part and snag a turbo off an old chrysler 2.2 liter for $75, and get a rebuild kit for a hundred and a half and be set.
I did exactly that the last time I designed and built a custom turbo set-up.

It should be capable of 1 bar on that diesel engine if the exhaust is designed well.

see Looking for a turbo! --Wow... that was 2005 and I still have it.

Sam, what's that vintage TO4 worth? ...more or less than an eram?

I second the T25. You can find them for $100, then another $75 for the rebuild kit. Additonally, the ones used on Saab NG900's have internal wastegates.

goto TurboDodge.Com - Turbo Dodge forum for Turbo Mopars, Shelbys, Daytona, SRT-4, PT Cruiser, Omni and more! the 2.2-2.5 td's used the smaller garret turbos and had built in wastegates on theme......best part is they are cheap in the td used parts world......
the turbos from 86-87 were for the non-intercoolef cars.......came on the omni glh, t-600, caravan, charger, etc......so there are lots out there.....

I don't know much about the Kubota engines, but 80-100 hp sounds like a lot. We get 66bhp@2800rpm out of our turbo aftercooled Caterpillars (really just a yellow Perkins).
