Brave cops, serious drama:

We had a guy completely lose the plot yesterday in Hollywood and start walking down the street shooting indiscriminately. As hard as it may be for people in the heartland to believe, I can't remember anyone ever doing it quite like this in all my years of living here. I drive through this intersection all the time and was only a few blocks away when it happened.

When the story comes out, it's as simple as the guy's GF leaving him and he just came unglued. Story as old as the hills. Usually people just shoot themselves, though...

As much as we bash cops around here, (and sometimes deservedly), I thought I'd shine the light on some bravery under fire. Particularly the second picture in the slide show, the plain clothes guy who is first on scene and just jumps out of his car w/ no vest and charges with his pistol. Total USMC style...the bad guy was shooting at everyone and everything and did not care if he got shot. He wanted to get shot.

A surreal, and deadly, scene in a Hollywood intersection - latimes.com

According to the local TV news reporting on it up here he was hollering "Kill Me!"

So...they did.

It sure seems like there's is some crazy deadly shooting every day over the last few weeks. We've had a shooting or a murder/suicide every few days here for about two months. It's like the world is coming unhinged.

Looks to me that he has a vest on. Blue showing at the neck and an arched bulge in front of the right shoulder.

Nevertheless, he took care of business. Bravely.

The photo of the BMW hood....the gaps are all jacked up. Aside from the hole could a bullet actually do that?

I know, horrible. Nowadays I can't help myself from checking the FB page of people in the news, including this guy, (and the shooter). It really puts a human face on names from news stories. So sad...

The guy who did this really did not fit the usual profile for homicidal maniacs. Just sayin'.

No kidding.... If you want to end your own life, thats one thing, but to end someone rip someone else away from their friends and family, is totally another. Takes a whole nother level of crazy....

So here's my take.......

This would never happen but........what if a story was done - in depth - of the how's and why's this incident took place? Maybe others could LEARN from it.

In particular - an ANALYSIS of what was possibly going through this guy's mind preceding the event.

I know there are TV shows that dramatize situations and criminal cases but I'm talking about something on the local or national nightly news that does more than just say "So and so was shot dead earlier today da da da....sources say he was having domestic problems...da da da..."

Let's break it all down and maybe provide some discussion and opinion on where and how things could have been fixed....

Now that would be educational - IF done properly.

Of course the media would not do this because they think it would not be newsworthy or provide "entertainment" value. And my position is it would EDUCATE. Not saying it would prevent the same thing from happening again...we all know how many lunatics there are in our society....but it could change someone's life....who knows.

I feel the same way about traffic accidents, BTW....you never get analysis...just the info on how many were killed, their ages and gender. Duh....thanks for your contribution to society....

Baz, try to follow it in LA papers or TV websites... surely more info will come out. It might end up being no more complex than the guy decided he didn't like one of the side effects of a psych med he was taking, and didn't know it's very ill advised to just stop taking it.

My first wife's cousin stopped like that and it sent him into a deep, dark depression and he shot himself in the head. And this was a guy with a wonderful wife, two sweet adopted daughters, and a great life.

His ex-girlfriend mentioned that they broke up recently and may have been set him off and he may have been taking prescription drugs. Maybe more will come out in time.
