i found a schebler carb on a 1920s gravely along a river bed that looked like it had been there since the 30s. I was shocked when i got it home and found out what it was. Sold it for 400 . Also got a 1956 ford f800 aluminum hood scoup from the same area and sold it for 275

A co-worker gave me a Toro single stage snowblower because the "engine was seized".
I was hoping to use the carb from it to improve mine. Because none of us can leave well enough alone, I dug in a little bit to make sure it was really stuck. Outcome? The electric starter (completely unnecessary) gear had come off of the flywheel, and the bolts that hold it on (stupid design) had broken and caused the crank to not be able to turn. Free, but I put a few hours of my time into it. On the plus side - the offending electric start kit is currently on fleabay, and I'll probably clear 25-30 bucks for it. The guy who gave this to me finds the whole thing quite entertaining. |

I have already made a Good Score on Sunday January 1..bought a Contemporary Bedford PA Style Percussion LR by Kirkbridxxx...Tight Curly Maple stock, elaborately engraved Patch box, Elaborate wire inlay in stock, Custom Percussion Lock that has heavily chased engraving and a Wm Large Barrel circa 1950's or 60's...$1162.50 delivered... I am thinking 3 to 4 anyway..the engraving on the lock alone would be what I paid for it. Cost of building one is mostly likely 7 to 10. |

I don't know Tabs that thing looks gaudy to me, the mix of metals, and the over bent stock?

In the configuration that this Spoon is in, it would be considered to be a late PA LR..circa 1830-1840. The later LR's of the Percussion era were more gaudy with many Silver inlays,and were generally of a smaller caliber. Most of the extant original Bedford LR's are of the later era..
The drop and shape of the stock along with the configuration of the lock is unique to the Bedford style. I would not rule out that this rifle is a copy of an original one. What is a bit unusal for a PA LR is the level of engraving on the Lock? That seems to me to be a bit of license by the builder. By doing a bit of research through a book on Patchboxes there is an almost dead ringer for this Patchbox by a Petrene W...listed on pg 382 of the Kentucky Rifle Patchboxes vol 1. The shape of the stock is very similar. |

I posted this last Summer. There was a yard sale down the street on May 21, you know, end of the world day. Got a leather Wassily B3 chair for $10.
A year before that, driving by a yard sale, I spotted a 21.5" LCD monitor, stopped and checked it out. There was no power nor a computer to drive it, but it was a high end Gateway with Faroudja technology. Nobody wanted it because the P O had put a wooden stand on it in place of the original plastic. Asked the price. $15. Did not negotiate. Works great. |

Two summers ago I looked at a restored MGA advertised on Kijiji. When I got to the gentleman's place, he also mentioned he had a parts car he wanted to get rid of. I ended up buying his parts car for $500. Under all the dust and grime, the frame and tub were very sound (for an Ontario car). It had a little rust here and there. The car was filled with dismantled parts - about 2.5 MGA's worth. There was also dusty, but brand new replacement metal patch panels, 3 engines, 2 transmissions, ect, ect. It took me 3 pick-up truck loads + a trailer for the actual car to get everything home. I'll be turning this into a vintage race car soon.

From my local Goodwill: 1986 or so Ibanez RG430. $16. Has one nick on the body that has been touched up. Otherwise it's pretty much excellent.

The best deal I ever got was on an 1985 Honda 125M cc electric start 3 wheeler. I bought this for $50 because it had 2 flat tires, a broken headlight, and wouldn't start. I brought it home and did the fix-a-flat deal with the tires, and put a new spark plug in the motor.
It started right up on the second pull and ran great for me for 12 years almost every day out on my farm pulling carts of firewood, running trails, teaching my kids to ride, and pulling sleds in the snow. I finally sold it a few years back for $350 at a tractor flea market and only ever had to clean the carb out a few times as maintenance. |
