Hot wheels fans out there ?

I'm a fan of HW cars and part time collector (the kids always need more toys )
I dont buy much but when i come across them in an aisle i can't help browsing through a few. I always admired their designers creativity.
Are more fans around ?

I was a fan of Hot Wheels and Matchbox back in the day. They both still make some good stuff. I prefer Tomica though to both. Japanese Matchbox. Great little cars.

Luv matchbox. I was fondling a Monster model today but it was REALLY poorly made.

Loved the old Lesney Matchbox cars, although I do collect the Corvair-related HW, Johnny Lightning, Sabra, etc. diecasts

The old lesney's were really detailed. I got a lot when i was a kid.
Now they're a shadow...
But Tomica is almost as good now as they were in the day.

One here, BITD I collected deposit bottles walking home from school(1.5 miles), then cashing them in in the morning before school. After a week of that I would hop on my bike & Ride to the local Zares and spend it all on Hot Wheels
Any time I'm at any store that sells em, I check them out, as a matter of fact, I picked up a few the other night

I'm looking for more of these 914s, really ned a Blue & Yellow ones.. But will take what ever I can find........

Yeah, I want one of those 914 as well. I found myself in a Walmart and a couple of other places that sell Matchbox in the last week or two, but none of them had the 914.

Byron I have the baja bug on my desk except in purple. My son and I always look for them as well. Anytime I see a Porsche or VW Van, we pick it up.

I live right down the street from Mattel's HQ. We get discounts on Hot Wheels for being a local.
I have the Volkswagen roadster on my desk here at Pelican. Mattel used to have a Hot Wheels truck that opened up like a food truck to sell nothing but Hot Wheels stuff. Once a year, they would have a car show right up the street from pelican and bring out the Hot Wheels truck. Was pretty cool.

Yup, me too ... any time we are some place that sells them I have to look to see if there are any I need

It has been very convenient over the past 10 years or so when I'm shopping for the kids collection to continue adding to mine. I'll post some pics of the P-car collection later on.

My "honorary Turkish Grandkids" have been gifted several of the tracks and many cars. Selma, the oldest girl, LOVES bringing them out when her greek cousin visits...evidently he is quite envious.

Wished I'd have known. I threw away a whole bunch of NASCAR Hot Wheels in the original pack. They were valued at a buck to 2 bucks ea. Even a Davey Allison Texaco. (Well, that one might have been worth $4.) Not worth the time.

Are you KIDDING?? ALL OVER HotWheels as a kid!! When they first hit my local five-and-dime in '68-69 - I thought I would die! I was 8-9 years old and the cars were $.99 each. I had a weekly allowance of $1 - but I also received $.50/day for lunch. I would skip lunch every other day and save the money for the Saturday trip into town where I would go straight to the Hotwheels section and buy at least 1 car and possibly two...................It became an obsession until my early teens.

My best friend at the time also had the same rediculous passion for Hotwheels. For any birthday or Christmas it was nothing BUT Hotwheels track, accessories, launchers, curved sections, mag wheel-shaped car carry totes, etc, etc. He and I would then get together at his house and we would combine our two ginormous collections into one and play all weekend long.

All told........ between me and my parents purchasing everything Hotwheels for 4 years straight - prolly had "invested' easily $600-700 ...............and that's late 60's-early 70's dollars. I had two very large steamer trunks my Mom had given me to keep all that stuff in. I was very particular about keeping the cars in order, clean, track wiped off.

Of course not too long after 18 I graduated, moved out and started life. When I was in my late 20's my parents built a new house to retire in. My mom called and asked if I still wanted "all that Hotwheel stuff" in her attic. So I go over and look into those trunks and discover they were time machines of my youth. Most all the stuff was just as I had packed away years ago but it still looked almost new. But what do I do with them now??

I thought about putting it in my attic or selling or..............................................Gi ving all of it to my sisters two young boys who at the time were about the same age as me. I called my sister and told her what I wanted to do and she could not believe I was going to give her kids all that stuff. She thought a lot of it was valuable because of the age and condition. I trucked it all over to her place and said to her kids......"here ya go ............enjoy!!"

Fast forward a couple months later. I go over there for a visit and see Hotwheels cars in the dirt, track pieces, gates and props out in the mud, all kinds of H/W 'carnage' everwhere I look. For an instant I go "WTF?" Then realize my nephews were having as much fun as I did then

Still have mine from the late 60's with track, etc. Tried to get my son into it, but he just wasn't interested (electronic games had his interest...).

When they recently raised the prices from .99 to a 1.02, I had to dial back.

If I could buy real cars, I would. But I can't, so substitute hotwheels and matchbox, which I can sometimes afford.
