That was brilliant that it got going at all. What are these people thinking? No, I don't care if you PARF this if you think it's illegal alien motivated. |

Hah,
One of the problems with technology today. You don't even need to print the thing out. A while back I had misplaced my license but I had a picture of it, front and back, on my iPhone. I had 3 occasions to present it as ID and it was accepted all 3 times. On one occasion the young lady remarked, "cool app, where can I get it?" Sign of the times.

I got my SS card in 1965. It is blue ink on heavy paper and my name and SS number are typed in with a typewriter. My friend is my age and had lost his years ago and wanted a duplicate, so I scanned mine, photoshopped the data out and printed up a blank for him. He found a typewriter somewhere and typed in his name and number. Voila!

I have all my "might ever need" IDs for me and my family on mine (DLs, other licenses, certificates, diplomas, SS cards, car registrations and insurance cards, all that stuff as well as debit/credit cards, etc.) Make sure to get a password-protected app to store that stuff in (I do - if you enter the wrong PW 3X it automatically deletes everything). I hate carrying a wallet and other crap around - most times I don't now (don't need to) and can function just fine - these devices are utterly amazing.

I think the operative word here is "fake." Whether your digital version is accepted or not, it is illegal to reproduce government documents. 19 YO'ds gettin' into bars can be big trouble for the bar owner. How's the doorman or bartender supposed to spot these?
Well, maybe I'm speaking out too soon. I ought to get a few. Keep a couple in the glove box in case I get into an accident. Pull out my DL and bogus ins papers against my made up plate and give all my info to the other driver. Courteously. And then... Adios MF'r. Or I could procure a CC in someone's name and back it up with my new ID. Thanks for the TV. And the new Rolex. |

Started working on it but reality is we'll all have microchips implanted in our asses before you'd get the state and fed to approve whatever counterfeit measures you can come up with.

The fakes?
Any bartender or doorman worth anything should be able to spot them. I have not seen a state issued DL that does not have some sort of security feature like a hologram or fluorescent ink which is pretty hard to fake. Way back in the day NY started issuing photo licenses to combat sharing of ID. Problem is they used regular old Kodak photo paper so they ended up being easier to fake than the non photo paper license that it replaced. You just set up an enlarger or camera on a tripod and take a few shots of your license. If you had access to developing, HS photography club always worked, you ended up with copies that you could cut up and swap numbers around to get a legal date. Then one more shot on the enlarger to cover up the cut lines and you were good to go. But don't teach your bosses son or he may go back to college and do half his frat house then (ignoring your advice to only let someone he personally knew develop the film) drop the roll at one of those drive up photo booths and when he came back to get the roll the Feds would be waiting for him and he'd spend the night convincing them it was only fake ID for college kids and not something more nefarious.
