Again, regional issue. Most of the convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurants, etc are hiring. My brother in law's younger brother (19 and no real experience) recently got a day shift cashier's job at a gas station starting at $12.50/hr with benefits. CA is not a microcosm of the entire country.

Sorry guys that all of a sudden this became a Mexican bashing thread. No where did I say the animal out back was Mexican or any other. I did compare him to mud stomping Indians, but that was a comparison.

Alas, I figured you guys would start in if I mentioned Mexican or Indian. AFA burgers, I don't know. I can't eat at a place like that. If I can see most of the preparation, I might eat it.

But in the context of this thread, restaurants are one type of business that have been affected the most regarding good help. A few times in my life I have had meals that cost 200 a plate and it was worth it. I'd be willing to bet the check that no one today can match the quality and service of a meal like that in the 70's.

I went to the Ritz Carlton not that long ago and almost walked out on the 2nd course. Denny's with tuxedos.

I'm sure it is regional. And according to you, the cost of living in KS is such that the cashier's job at 12.50 should pay 25 here.

No, not bashing them at all, but its a real fact around these parts. I was at Montrose shopping for some stuff to take to my sister's the other day. YOu would expect the people who work there should be local. Most were latinos with limited English speaking skill. This is a mostly white middle class neighborhood. Not to put anyone down, but it is a fact. Latino management would more then likely hire another latino workmen then a white person. The car wash, market, fast food joints, and hardware store are all latino workmen. I know the white kid next to my sister's had been talking about getting a job for some time now, but he can't find anything locally. He's 18 and does not have a car.

Most immigrants legal or illegal will work harder than most everyone else.. . Big problem with many workers today is "work ethic". They show up late ,think it's no big deal. They seem to want a position not a job.

I found most immigrants from poorer countries will work to death because they came here to work(well most of them). I am not sure where the immigrants are coming from in your neck of the woods. Many of the newer immigrants are not from third world countries. they maybe wealthy so their work ethics maybe different. the Mexican guys I have had dealings with are good honest and hardworking. Many of them don't like to work Sundays, but they will if they know work has to be done. But then who likes to work Sundays. I use the same guy all the time. If I have to deal with a new subcontractor (I rarely do), then I like to hire the older ones in their early 40s. They young punks in their 20s do not get a chance. I know its sihtty thing to do, but I have to protect myself. This is from experience.

Let talk about work ethics with our young American boys. I am not sure about Candians.
