All of the coolest guys in the world are pretty much pushing 70 right now. All of the Bobs, (Dylan/Neuwirth/DeNiro), Christopherson, Martin Sheen, Willy, JD, etc... If you know one, you've pretty much met them all. The Malibu mafia. Throw in Jack Nicholson and Harry Dean+Sam Shepard for good measure.

Maria was, and probably still is very beautiful. This is because she is Sara's daughter, Bob adopted her. She married Peter Himmelman, a well-known Mpls. musician and they've had a bunch of kids I think. Haven't seen her in decades but she was really a babe. Bob came in almost every night that she worked with the rest of the brood, Jesse/Jakob/Annie and I can't remember other kid's name. It was a real ****ty, "family style" restaurant, too. Owned by another famous Iron Range guy, though, Mick Palucci whose dad was Gino Palucci. (Gino's frozen pizza and Chun King Chow Mein, a real frozen food barron). Maybe they were family friends...it's a small world up there in Hibbing and Duluth.

That summer, (1981), was during Bob's big *back to Minnesota* phase. They lived outside of town and he went out almost every night to one club date or another. Marshall Crenshaw one night, The Motels the next, Prince, Husker Du, you name it. I'd run into him during the day in the city driving around in his beat-up early '70s Eldorado convertible w/ the top down, usually driving around the lakes or in Uptown. Mpls. really was cool in those days, not anymore. After the Stray Cats show in a club, he had an after party at his house and invited them. That was fun. If you ever go to one of his houses, he has bowls of Kool cigs everywhere. If there aren't bowls of Kools, someone is lying to you. It isn't really his house.

My Dad is part owner of a bar up on Madeline Island in Lake Superior called Tom's Burned-down cafe. We have live music all summer and every year John Koerner is one of our big attractions. He probably has the best early Dylan stories of anyone on earth but I never want to bug him with that. He's too interesting on his own. Wine/women/song...
