F'ing A holes

My Mom lost her husband, my Dad a year ago. Some a holes broke into her home and stole over 60K worth of personal property, grrrrrr. Meeting the security people to install a system today. Guarded gate communities are a false sense of security.

A sad and all too common tale these days. Good you are getting an alarm system.

I don't understand why there was no system to begin with, but that's water under.

So, how does one get into and out of the community with stolen property? Cameras present? What the hell does the guard do? I say he's fired and he's in on it as well.

Lastly, I'm a firm believer that burglaries are not as random as some might think. If you go over exactly what was stolen, you might figure out who stole it. IOW, who had access to what.

Somebody knew what was there.

The communities in so cal with just an automatic gate are a joke. OTOH, there are plenty with guards that are legit! Ever try to get into The Country?

I'm thinking along the same lines as Zeke on this, have there been other incidents in the neighborhood? Was there a obit. published for your Dad? Are there video cameras in the area? The loss is more than just the items taken. Was this a crash and dash or a more professional kind of job? Do the items taken give you any clues? For your Mom's sense of security might be worth having someone good look into this theft.

Really sorry to hear this, Glad she was not involved when this happened.

All the best to you both for the new year
Richard

It sucks she has to go through this but at least she wasn't home and gotten hurt or worse. Stuff can be replaced but people can't.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was a juvenile that lives in the community from my experience. I'm sorry you mom had to endure this too...

Gated community?

If you drive up in something that looks like a delivery van or service van (e.g. lawn/garden, pool, Party-Tyme, etc), especially during the busy holiday, most will just wave you through, especially if they are busy.

We've got a couple of gated communities around here with code locks on the exterior gate. Just follow the resident through when the gate opens and you can go wherever you want.

A white delivery truck is the ideal theft vehicle. They're invisible, are expected to have a couple of guys in them, they're expected to park in the driveway and go into the house. They hold LOTS of stuff....

Correct on all accounts. But there should be video surveillance all around. Even if the plates are stolen on the vehicle, there are always telltale signs.

And chances are these guys will be back in some way. Careful scrutiny of the comers and goers might snare a lead.

Tevake, the the father of the OP did have a fairly high profile. There was considerable info on his passing.
