My newest project. Wrx
Im up late, and bored, chasing parts for my next project , so I'll share some pics with you guys.
Poor guy , let his insurance lapse, then stuffed it into some other smaller car at a low speed. He is loosing his license , registration, has to pay the damages to the other vehicle, and is out this car. 2007 WRX . 76000 miles. took a decent hit to the right front corner, damaged the r fender, bumper cover, rad, condenser , core support, filler etc. Both rails moved pretty good, and the right rail went into the timing cover, broke the plastic gear, derailed the belt, and I am about 90 % sure it bent a valve or two. I got it on the cheap, and it will not have a salvage title,so I stand to make a nice buck. Ill probably drive it for a little while, but it will basically be a flip. I don't really do body work, but I am 100% sure I can do a near perfect repair on this one my self. I'll take it , and have the frame horns straightened by a pro, but I'll tear into the rest myself. My plan is to replace the broken sprocket, hang a belt on it, and see if it runs. If I'm lucky, and it does, then this will be a home run. If not, off with its head for a few new valves, and I'll still be o.k ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's a lot of frame damage for a "low speed hit". Make sure to sell it to someone you hate if you're not planning on disclosing the frame damage, and make sure that they don't use the interweb and find this thread somehow.
![]() You could stand to "loose" more than the last fool who owned it.

I am sure Fred will give a full disclosure to the new owner, although as much fun as these cars in the winter it might not get flipped.
Fred you have a PM

It's a $15,000 car (give or take) if it were in good shape with no issues or history
CarFax will show an accident history at some point I'm guessing anyone who knows anything about cars will be able to spot the repairs How much did you buy it for? How much (including charging for your time at 3/4 rate) will it cost you to fix? How much will you be able to sell it for with that history/evidence? My guess is if you're really honest with yourself, you just bought yourself a job and tied up your money. Unless you really stole the car, or are really planning to cut corners and cross your fingers.

I've fixed a lot worse with good results. With Fred's work connections, he will make out well.

![]() Well, if nothing else, I have a wicked drive train for that 914 autocross weapon that I have always dreamed about. I finally got some down time at work , replaced the rear timing belt cover, the broken cam sprocket, put a new timing belt on, and spun the motor by hand a few times. Nothing felt like it was binding, and I thought I could feel each cylinder come up on its compression stroke. Twisted the key, and walla! I would have guessed this one would have bent a few valves. I got lucky. A little bit of lifter noise, that quickly went away after a minute or so.

My arsenal of subaru timing belt tools. The home made one is my favorite.

Yeah, l dig the custom wrench
Makes it a lot easier to see all that timing stuff with it taken apart like that. That hood looks pretty straight, I would think the body stuff would not be too bad. Did the airbags fire?

No air bag deployment, and the hood is perfect, not even a nick. The left front fender was untouched as well. It looks worse than it really is, the rails are bent up in the front six inches, nothing moved anywhere near the strut towers, or suspension. I have rounded up 75 % of what I need to fit the front back on again. My local Subaru Dealer is great to deal with. I have bought most everything new oem for not much more than used. My frame guy will be ready for me in the second week of Jan. This should end up being an easy fix. I usually prefer cars with nice body work, but with mechanical issues for flips, but this one just fell in my lap.
I don't plan on disclosing jack shat. After I roll back the odometer, I'm gonna badge it up as an STI , and try to sell it off as perfect to an elderly couple on a fixed income. Actually, I took pics of what it looked like when I got it, and I keep taking pics , as I move through putting it back together, and I will of course disclose all this, plus receipts to any prospects .

In WRX circles they usually steal another car and swap the bits in.
