I would have loved to have been a 1%er! I was still poo'ing diapers when they roamed the earth.
Yes, the PORSCHES won everything once they came out in Can-Am but they don't sound like 8.1 litres of big-block chevy.

The most spectacular races I ever saw were CanAms out at Riverside.

Very similar, indeed. Sadly, as nice as they are, historic race car events are NOT like having seen these guys when racing...I'm sure Milt will agree...

Not that there is anything wrong with this new car, it looks fabulous. But the charm and mystique of the CanAm was the variety. We will never see that again and especially with another spec car.
Closest thing to actual variety racing is ALMS. |

Come on guys, take your Can-Am colored glasses off.
We have many series today that allow unlimited engine displacement and type. Take for example the, humm, ok not a good example. How about a series that one of the rules was a MAXIMUM weight with no minimum. Thats just like, ok not a good example. Well most all of the sports car classes today can lap an F1 track faster than a F1 can. Mclaren did it back then and now, ok not a good example. Well after the monocoque chassis was taken as the norm, they were all basically the same car underneath. Ok the Porsche 917 still tube frame. But if you look at history, it was just a fluke that that car won in CanAm. What did it do anywhere else? Well the drivers today are more diverse. Today you have Sports Car racers that are world champions in F1, Indy Car Winners. Back they there were one series wounders. Wait, I may have that backwards. Well, if you squint, the URC cars still look like a race car should look!
