Barbour Jackets/Coats
I've aalways wanted a Brbour Jacket/coat since seeing them worn by steve Mcqueen/Malcolm Smith in the ISDT in the late sixties. Never could justify the $500
+ price of admission since I live in a relatively warm clime. Last spring I decided to reward myself with one...started to pull the trigger at a retail outlet but checked eBay and found a brand new one with taags still on it for less than $200 SHIPPED. wow...WHAT A QUALITY PIECE OF CLOTHING, oNLY WISHED i'D PURCHASED ONE SOONER.

A photo of the Barbour jacket would be great. With or without u in it. You are forgiven if you are not as cool as Steve McQueen as he has big boots to fill.

How cool is that? Thanks Dueller, you made my day. As I always say about something I like, should have done it sooner

Actually, Jim, you look damn cool relaxing with a drink by the bandstand. Just get yourself a nice pair of desert boots and you're off and running; course the well-worn boots are a pretty good look too.
Nice score on the jacket.

Jim you look good in the coat. For riding, I prefer something with armor in it.

i have had both a Beaufort and a Bedale hunting jacket for about 15 years. love them both BUT....even after years of maintaining them properly with yearly waxing, the jackets have fallen apart. the edges start to fray and holes form at friction spots. i now have both coats boxed and waiting to ship to their service center in new england to be sewn, mended and rewaxed. it will cost several hundred dollars to fix them.
not sure i would ever buy another one given what i know about their long term care needs i wonder how yours will hold up get a can of their wax and and keep yours properly waxed depending on how much you use it |

you can wax it yourself with just a can of their wax, hot water in a pan, some rags and a hair dryer. its easy and fun and cheap to do this once a year. its getting holes patched and the frayed ends cuffed, that gets very expensive.
only use barbour wax. you can get it online and a can should last a few years...if you have a fly fishing store or hunting shop near you, they may carry it once the wax comes off your coat, the fabric is vulnerable and will fall apart so dont neglect the waxing |

Jim,
Nice coat and waxing yearly is a must or it will wear out quite quickly...my first one did... I think that Mr Cool is actually wearing a Belstaff jacket... BELSTAFF | Official Website - Trialmaster Legend Jacket Just a thought...

nope. its called "thornproof dressing" also....
here's some guidance John Pacheco: How to Wax your Barbour Beaufort Jacket i assume the procedure is the same with your fabric. i always cover the jacket with the melted wax, liberally. then hang it and melt the wax evenly with a hair dryer until it looks brand new again. i never remove the excess, i just melt it into the seams or wherever it goes. better to have too much than too little. very easy. just be careful after you wax it if you sit in the car or anywhere else because the new wax can stain your car seat, furniture etc... |

btw, if you ever need it mended for any reason, do not take it locally to some hack. send it to barbour's authorized service center. they are highly skilled. ive had mine patched and altered in the past and was amazed at the level of care they took to not only fix the holes, but to reinforce areas that they noticed getting weak...like along edges or at the corners of pockets
they are in new england somewhere....no need to send to UK. im almost positive this is where ive sent mine in the past 55 Meadowbrook Drive Milford, NH 03055-4613 (603) 673-1313 |

LOL, Barbour used to be only worn by shooting types in the UK, who wore tweeds & brogues, drove old Land Rovers & had a couple of well behaved English Spaniels at their heels. Then in the 80's the Range Rover set started wearing Barbour and soon everyone had to have one. Unfortunately, the quality suffered- my last waxed coat was way lighter & thinner than my first, despite being the same model. Still good stuff, but I prefer Filson.
