Iphone, Macbook pro and Ipad question
My husband and I are debating whether it is possible to sync our daughter's iphone and ipad to our macpro laptop so if someone is deleting her history we have a backup of the information. First question: Can we sync the iphone and ipad to the macbook and if so do those devices now have access to the information on our macbook?
Second question: Can we sync her iphone if we are not the account holder for it? |

So let me get this straight, you are wanting to backup the device on a computer other than the one it is tied to itunes in?
And why do you need a backup of the history to begin with? |

We actually have another thread posted "any other mean parents out there". We are in a situation where my 11 year old step daughter was given an iphone and ipad for xmas. The ipad is in our home with constant monitoring and many restrictions. Her iphone was given by her mother and has no restrictions set for internet usage, FB, and oovoo, video chatting. While we are aware this is about trust, our girl is being advised to delete and erase before we have a chance to look over any activity and her mother goes in and deletes for her.

Sounds like a no win for you guys. If she is a good girl with you guys her mom will let her be a bad girl and actually foster that behavior. The mother must be a real PITA!

First question: Not really clear, what information are you concerned about the devices having access to? Second question: Account holder? Do you mean the user account on the computer or the account with the carrier, ATT, Verizon........

Your router should have logs of every site that was hit from any machine on your network. You won't know what went on at the site, though. And if she uses a dataplan and not your wifi, it wouldnt work either.

Our issue is that we want to be able to monitor the private messages and chats that go on in her facebook account. We also want to be able to monitor her history on "oovoo". Even though in our home she is not allowed to have video chats her mother allows it and doesn't take the devices away after a certain time. We have found out that the video chatting is being done from her bedroom as late as 1am and we feel that is inappropriate for an 11 year old girl. We, for the most part, feel what SHE says and does on FB and chats is pretty innocent but we are shocked at what she receives in messages and what she is able to view on other people's walls.
We were just told there is something called icloud that links all the mac devices together and we were hoping this may be the answer for us. Our concern is if they are able to sync up, does she or her mother have the ability to view what is on our macpro? |

Try this if you want to block/limit/control, K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filter and Parental Control Software | Free Internet Filtering and Parental Controls Software If you need to know everything she's typing you need a key logger.

You just need access to her FB account, make her give you the password.... The chats will be saved from any device, and all viewable from any device.... As far as the ooVoo, shut off your wifi at night, and that will kill the iPad....
Also, it should be mentioned that if she is using the Facebook Messenger app, it broadcasts location if location services are turned on.... So make sure location services are off... Last edited by porsche4life; 01-02-2012 at 07:30 PM.. |

Since her mobile devices dont have data plans and all use wifi, just log into your router and limit her device access to certain hours that you approve of. You should also be able to log websites visited (as described by another user) with the router as well. On another hand, I dont know of any keyloggers or webtracking softwar for Apple devices. There is probably some parental control applications out there. When the device is hooked to your mac, you can set access limits as well. You can even disable any Apple video capabilities as well. Apple has a pretty good parental control software program that you can access on the device when it is connected. I have 3 daughters and am trying to learn all this stuff now before they get old enough to want to use it.

Okay so now we need to learn how to log onto our router. We both are sitting here thinking huh? We never even knew any info is logged perm. onto the router. That sounds good if she is in and around our home. We were wondering if we just took her iphone, ipad and our macpro to an Apple store they could walk us through everything and give us options. The only hitch is that the iphone is under her mother's account so they may not do anything with the phone because we don't have account information? For example, when she volunteered her phone to be checked last night before going to bed she only had 1 text message on it. We shook our heads because she was texting for most of the night in front of us and now there is only 1 message? Hmm...
