so, broken toe?

Stubbed it on furniture either yesterday or the day before. Started hurting a lot after a short motorcycle ride yesterday afternoon, then hurt a lot last night. This morning it looks like this. I assume it isn't worth a trip to the doc as I don't think there is any treatment for it.

My guess is that it's broken. They would probably just tape it to the one to the left.

Are you using a lawn mower to trim your nails?

nostatic 01-03-2012 10:20 AM

ha - I have fairly messed up nail beds from years of my feet getting abused in sports. I lost track of how many time my feet got stepped on playing basketball. You really don't want to see the other foot.

On the positive side in that photo you can see there part of my foot ground off in the moto accident and it is mostly back :D

In my professional opinion, it's probably broken. You just need to slip a sock over that foot and tough it out until it heals.

Yep I treat them just like I do broken fingers. Just tape it to the one to the left, take some aspirin and drive on. Elevate it whenever you can.

Tell Noah930 it's a really ugly hand and he'll work on it for free..

I broke the three little ones on my left foot after dropping a transmission on them.

Doctor taped them up and sent me on my way. Not much you can do.

Careful... my wife hurt her toe a few years ago. Xrays didn't show anything, so they had her tape it to the neighboring toe. It ended up healing crooked, they re-Xrayed and found the fracture. Now her toe is crooked and causes serious pain and they say the only way to fix it is surgery.

I broke a toe years ago, taped it to the neighbor, it healed fine. No problems.

YMMV

Could be or you broke a blood vessel.

BTW, cut them nails with a dull hacksaw?

madmmac 01-03-2012 11:07 AM

Probably....recover as noted above.

Suggestion, you need to wear wider shoes.

DonDavis 01-03-2012 11:12 AM

I did the same to number 3 and it was purple/black like that. Just taped it to its neighbor and limped around for a week or so.
However, if it were the big toe, I'd see a doc.

cstreit 01-03-2012 11:17 AM

Yep. Tape it to the next one and suck it up.

...and are you trimming your nails with an angle grinder? :D

Head416 01-03-2012 11:18 AM

I'll add: I think it's better that you tape it to the weaker neighbor rather than the stronger neighbor to try to avoid the healing crooked thing.

syncroid 01-03-2012 11:30 AM

Ouch! Been there and done that but with the three smaller toes.
That trim job looks more like the rip and tear with a pliers method. ;)

nostatic 01-03-2012 11:31 AM

lawn mower, dull hacksaw, angle grinder and pliers. We're off to a good start...

Maybe some of you guys can give me the number of a good pedi shop that you use :D

Head416 01-03-2012 03:28 PM

Sure! It's on the corner of... oh, wait. That was a joke, wasn't it?

Nevermind.

Ordinarily, I would say that a dude getting a pedi is a bit unnecessary but in this case, I would probably pay for it.

I certainly hope you and your neighbor were on good speaking terms!
