Always wanted a Hutch, but had to settle first for a Mongoose then a Redline. Hutch was based out of Baltimore, MD?

Chino 01-04-2012 11:21 AM

Cool ad. I had a used 24" Schwinn Predator. I think minimum wage was $3.75 an hr.
Thanks

jetstar911 01-04-2012 02:15 PM

Correct, a bike shop 1st, Profile out of FL built their frames for a while, also built the 1st Hutch cranks.

I have a 88 Master, debating whether to restore/keep as "Survivor" or build up in my style. I have everything to keep as a it was, and really leaning towards that. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325722577.jpg

sprbxr 01-04-2012 05:18 PM

Pretty sure they never had a shop. Rich and Thelma Hutchins used to sell parts out of a trailer at the local races in MD. Their sons raced MX and BMX. We would make the trek to MD to race all the time and see them at the track. That address in Pasadena was their home they bought when Hutch really took off. We used to go there sometimes after races and jump our bikes into the water off the dock.

village idiot 01-04-2012 05:50 PM

Would still like to find an U.S. built Hoffman Condor frame and an early Mongoose frame.......miss those times of riding around all day with my friends

Motorsport-Tech 01-04-2012 09:31 PM

i remember the day the mongoose supergoose came out. beautiful. the good ole days of vdc, real p.k. rippers and quadangles, ghp, jmc, pattersons, cycle crafts. those were the days.

oh snap 01-04-2012 10:14 PM

Great poster. I had a couple of redlines and a diamond back growing up, all long gone. A few years ago I bought and "restored" a diamond back viper. It was small though so I gave it to a girlfriend :o

Now I have a Star (pretty rare I think, the company evolved into GHP) waiting for the same treatment.

Really? Awesome! My neighbor said he found a guy fetching ~$1500 for the ones he had in excellent condition. That is stupid (good) money for a used bicycle.

It is an Azusa, a JMC tribute bike, built by Supercross, they only built I think 25 20" & 20 Cruisers (I have one of those as well.)
Mr. Melton is truly one of the greats from the sport, hell, he helped make BMX what it is. Sadly, his wife Vera passed in May of last year. JMC bikes & parts are some of the stuff that brings big $$$$.
More BMX & Porsche pix!!

I got the Movie RAD when I was 2 years old, and I used to watch it religiously! I loved that movie. My brother grew up riding bikes from the 80s, and I always wanted a neon green Freestyle bike. I never really stopped riding. Now I am 27, and ride a few times a week. BMX is one of those things in my life that I won't ever give up. Keep on shredding guys!!SmileWavy

uncle_scott 01-05-2012 09:15 PM

^^^Am I seeing it correctly that Jim Bauer is part of Pelican Parts? You're an inspiration man. I watched your Porsche segment on the Odyssey website I think it was...made me believe that a lowly bmx punk kid like myself could have one, lol. I love to see people riding their bikes still! Gives me a lot of hope that in 10 to 20 years I will still be riding.

sammyg2 01-06-2012 08:09 AM

I had a yellow Schwinn stingray with silver metal-flake banana seat and high rise handlebars.
It had the yellow tassels on the ends of the bars when I first got it but I took those off cause they looked ghey.
I mean, who would want a bike with tassels, or one that was pink? ;)

I had a skateboard back then too, one with the hard clay wheels (back before urethane). They sure were cool when I was 12.

BTW Gary Turner who owned GT was a lying corksucker who ripped me off and sold me a boat that was crap. He knew it but he went to great lengths to disguise the problem and flat out said the engine was perfectly fine and had no problems at all.
The oil was pristine clean, that should have been a hint.
The cracked block didn't show it's head until after a few hours of service when the oil, once again, turned into a milkshake.
Upon disassembly it was evident the heads had just been re-installed after they found the problem and Turner decided, fuch it.
Just put it back together and I'll dump it on some poor SOB.

What year was the Sting-Ray??? I had a yellow one as well, spray painted it black & turned it into a BMX bike, my 1st one. I could wheelie that bike for ever.. Why didn't you take Turner to court??

Woody's REAL Gold Trick Star and he does STILL own it..

Brian, do you have the old BMW action with Fiola washing his slant nose 930? I use to have all of the old mags and I donated them to some neighbor kids a few years ago.

I was heavy into the BMX and freestyle scene during the 80's and early 90's then life got in the way. I still air the tires up on my old Standard 500 STA about every 6 months and take it for a spin.

As for bikes I wish I would have bought as investments, I wish I would have bought all 4 versions of the Hoffman Bikes Evil Knievel model. Those will be worth some coin in the future.
