For those that do Facebook - would you...

accept a friend request from someone you knew in HS (and had serious issues with) that is now in federal prison for bank robbery?

I'm thinking ... NOT!

speeder 01-04-2012 07:55 PM

Why do you even have to ask? That's what worries me.

M.D. Holloway 01-04-2012 07:56 PM

the whole thing freaks me the f*** out! Maybe I just have to document it in case something "happens"...

Jrboulder 01-04-2012 08:08 PM

You get Facebook in federal prison??

mikester 01-04-2012 08:19 PM

No.

M.D. Holloway 01-04-2012 08:21 PM

you sure?

McLovin 01-04-2012 08:35 PM

I know for a fact that you can facebook from Fed prison.

A kid I grew up with landed in Fed prison out in California (Lompoc).

I don't do facebook, but I've seen his page and his posts to others on Facebook.

(I also know they got chicken and ice cream on July 4th! And have movie nights).

He's looking for something....might be on a step program where you say your sorry for what you did........click the "I don't know this person" button, because you don't know him.

M.D. Holloway 01-04-2012 08:44 PM

'keep friends close and enemies closer..." (or was that enemas?)

GWN7 01-04-2012 08:51 PM

"Keep your friends close and your enemies at 300 yrds.....that's the range the spoon is 0 at"

I'm sure. If he caused you trouble and is contacting you - usually those step programs discouraging folks from trying to make amends to people if it will hurt the amendable to do so. I think it is unlikely that he is contacting you for that purpose and even if he was - I don't think I'd care much.

I had a person try to 'friend' me on facebook. It was a girl I was friends with back in HS - she did some unhealthy stuff - blamed me and a buddy and the people she told her side of the story to believed her over us. We lost longtime friends over it and while I do feel that if they aren't going to believe me 'good riddance' it was still a bad scene. I ignored her multiple attempts.

I saw no reason to inquire about it.

sc_rufctr 01-04-2012 09:16 PM

I wouldn't accept him as a FB friend and after I rejected his request I would also block him as well.

If he was your "friend" he can see your personal information and family members etc...
Also, he probably start will looking through your friends list and start sending them requests or try looking into their photos when you're tagged in them.

Bank robbery could be the one thing they actually got him on. Who knows what's going on inside his mind???

aleerpsoftware 01-04-2012 09:18 PM

well...me too..

The Bank Robbery deal is not what bothers me. It is the fact that you had serious issues with them when you knew them. They are not a friend.

If I HAD a true friend that went Coo Coo and robbed a bank, yes, I would friend them.

sammyg2 01-05-2012 05:47 AM

I was under the impression that facebook was just for teenage girls ....... ;)

azasadny 01-05-2012 05:48 AM

Why are you on Facebook?

M.D. Holloway 01-05-2012 06:04 AM

Art - I have relitives (young ones) as well as old friends and so forth that are on it. I like to keep in touch in a very informal way. Sort of like this place but less heavy.

I thought about it last night and decided that I will cancel my face book profile. I see nothing really positive coming from it.

How do you go about erasing your self from face book?

asphaltgambler 01-05-2012 06:06 AM

No Face book (I'm 52) and barely have a presence on Linkdin

azasadny 01-05-2012 06:25 AM

I'm on LinkedIn (for work) and here, but FaceBook is not for me! I had an account but closed it (don't remember exactly how I did it, but it wasn't difficult). FaceBook just seemed like such a waste of time and effort, all contacts just seemed to be very superficial and it kept me from spending time here, where my "real" buddies are!!

ha ha ha ha ha, good luck. I don't think a user can permanently delete their profile.

I have a FB as well but only to see what it was all about. I RARELY go there but I meet tons and tons of people that are more and more active on it. Plus, my ex just signed up my son with an account. Ugh. So, I have 2 options, flat out refuse to participate with him on it ( he thinks I'm old, and don't "get it", admittedly he's prob right :p ) or swallow the blue pill and go with him and be there when it goes to hell. And it will.

Btw, he's 12. Minimum age for FB is 13. When I saw that and asked her about it, she folded her arms, smiled and said "yeah, so?"

p.s.
8 of my 18 FB friends are Pelicans.
